I did want to say that I am quite proud of our support debating the ship article and the implications of its premise, whether you agree or not, whether you think it is a hit- or think-piece.

I am proud because the Dippers across the way wouldn’t even have the historical knowledge, self-awareness, or humility to even read, analyse, and debate it. They would simply scream victimhood, before demanding an apology.

I hope we continue to set ourselves apart from their ludicrous (and in some ways dangerous) revisionist denialism.

Weirdly they still had links to the confederacy into the 1970s

I agree with some of your points, but context is needed. I recall the England v Italy Euro’s Final and some muppets saying they were supporting Italy because of England’s colonial past! There have been 49-51 empires down the ages. I’m sure they all did shameful things. The Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese didn’t cover themselves in glory either. Also, looking at my heavily Irish and Norman influenced family tree, not sure I’m buying into the guilt trip. Or should I feel guilty about the Norman Conquest? Trying to apportion blame and guilt from history is utterly pointless. One of the bosses at my company moved to head office in France because his wife who is Russian was getting too much grief about The Ukraine invasion here. It’s not her fault. She didn’t have a hotline into Putin. What lessons are we learning here? If some bloke in Bristol traded slaves in the 1800’s you’ll do well to convince me it’s my fault. I definitely haven’t profited. I’m just a bloke from the North West, dragged up on an Oldham council estate without a pot to piss in. The Asian blokes in the mills I worked in didn’t have a pot to piss in either. I can say the Samosas they gave me were fantastic though. Simple days.
Apologies for the rant and I accept I failed to make a coherent point. I blame pre game drinks.
Which Oldham estate? I also lived on one, up in the hills.

Nah, you’re lying, that city and club have never done anything untoward.

You're not allowed to say vic**m anymore, it's a hate crime.

By any chance, and this is just a guess, but have Manchester City Football Club lessened the points gap to just 4, have a game in hand, are in the FA Cup Semi Finals and about to take a 3-0 advantage to Bayern Munich to progress in the Semi Finals of the Champions League setting up a potential Treble?

Because I must say, of all the previous occasions where this non-issue COULD have been brought up...

Is the winning answer.

I'd love to change it to the Manchester Bee as was suggested by a fellow blue in the media thread.

Personally I never liked the eagle so glad that's gone. The ship relates to Manchester history - good or bad - so I don't mind it. I mean we are a British team and Britain used to have the biggest, arguably most brutal empire of all time so of course our history is going to be tainted... The point is it's way long ago in the past so I doubt many people actually care or have even connected the dots on the ship.
No way.

I for one am sick of the Mcr Bee.

Since the tragedy at the Manchester Arena, it has gained a renaissance of sorts, but prior to that, I don't remember anyone, anywhere in Manchester making any reference to the Mcr Bee, personally.

It should serve as a symbol of remembrance; us including it in our badge, when we never have previously, might stink of opportunism IMO.

Light a candle and move the fuck on!

Why you getting all sensitive? Haha. I’m not even in favour of changing our badge!

The guy seemed to take great offence to the fact that the British empire was 1) significantly vast and 2) killed and enslaved a load of people… all of which is historically factual. People are strange.
