PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I think it would be better to close this whole case asap but it very well could be 2-3 years more. each game we win will be painted with this brush of the 115 charges by the press pack. this will go on in next season as well, dont think nce this season is over it is going away, die down eventually.
they are relentless with this take also experts now on TV during games can talk about openly. being charged and being guilty is two different things, but the way it is reported we are guilty.
and rival fans have lapped it up and it became the norm to call City cheaters and that where I agree with people some positive PR would be needed to rebuff this.
or get some dirt onto the surface from rivals clubs that can shock the media haha.

They're also missing the fact that no one cares. City fans believe one thing, everyone else another. No matter what we do and say we will not change that. We're guilty. We won at CAS, except we didn't. Time-barred, fined and a "technicality" were the real outcomes.

It will be the same this time around.

Pep will say what needs to be said. Jonathan Liew will ignore it and write some nonsense philosophical driven rant, Simon Jordan will say he's read all the evidence and then make some rash judgment on how he thinks we were guilty but we're not any more and, most importantly City will keep on winning.

Chelsea were berated for a while, but we came along and stole their headlines. No one really cares about what they've spent now because they're shite. Newcastle are playing by the book at the moment, but things will change there and then we'll pick up our popcorn and quietly walk backwards out of the room.

Spot on.

It will likely never stop. Once all is said and done on this 115 items case. There will be something else. It's an orchestrated battle of attrition to allow the old guard to at least remain competitive. The more we win the more they will smart, the more they smart the more they will try.

Exactly, great post

Nail on head.

As it stands we are doing nothing to help our cause, while allowing the issue to snowball through ignorance and lies.
Sorry fellas, but none of us, myself included, are attorneys or PR experts. I trust the club and its delegates 1000% in regards to "handling" this situation. They've been dealing with it for over a decade and it's had ZERO effect on our squad's success, on the pitch or off. It is one of only 2 sticks left. One will be dealt with on June 10th, God willing, and eventually the 2nd one will be put to bed as well. Enjoy our unparalleled success, bask in it. Don't worry about all the other shit. The point is for us to revel in our successes, not for others to. Those who hate us will never stop taking shots at us. Ask yourself how much leniency or compassion, let alone admiration you have for the Rags or the Dippers? It's the same thing. Expecting them to praise us and exalt in our success is frankly being naive. In fact, apart from enjoying what we are accomplishing I also enjoy listening to them cry like babies on television, in the press, on streams, choking on their own obvious bitterness and jealousy. It's a beautiful thing. So let them enjoy their witch hunt while we enjoy being the best team in the world. That too will pass as they'll be seen more and more as the boys who cried wolf, exposed as the desperate hypocrites they are to a newer, growing football audience around the world. Understand that we're on the verge of a three-peat and a treble SIMULTANEOUSLY. One can only imagine the level of stress, fear, panic, and so on running thrrough the minds and hearts of these cocksuckers. Love it, absolutely fucking love it!!!

Having seen 115 branded about so much and a quiet day at work so far, I decided to go back the press release by the premier league and have a look at the charges. What is crazy about the piss poor standard of journalism is not one of the lazy fuckers has actually broken the list down to rule allegedly broken in each season. if they had they could been the pioneering man city charge with 131 counts of wrong doing.

W16 - pitch invasion

Makes me wonder what the end game is for our enemies, is it to smear us or shut us down? Is their fantasy to do a Rangers on us? Could they actually get away with it? Or have the EPL seriously overreached and would be happy with a face saving compromise?
fucked if I know!

This bad press is all over the place. Winning trophies brings them out.
But don’t look at this negatively. In terms of our case, any jury can’t fail to have preconceived ideas based on the reporting.
I will be surprised if our lawyers don’t raise this on the basis, it’s impossible to have a fair verdict with all the negative coverage of the club.
The journos may have shot themselves in the foot. It will get worse each trophy we win

This is true, and this is why I - like the poster to whom the above response was given - have had ostensibly intelligent people comment to me on City's undoubted guilt. But they haven't read the CAS ruling or other documents relevant to the case. They simply take their lead from the media, who obdurately eschew any notion that we should be viewed as innocent until the contrary is proven.

On several occasions, I've reminded people who've blithely stated that we artificially inflated the value of the sponsorship from Etihad that the relevant contract was accepted by UEFA as being of a fair value, the relevant services to Etihad under that contract had unquestionably been provided, and Etihad had paid for the services in full. UEFA's allegation was that City's owner effectively refunded £50 million per annum to Etihad, which was in effect a favour to Etihad but meaning we forewent the opportunity to seek a main sponsor capable of paying the money itself.

City argued that this would have been a manifestly illogical and absurd course of action by the club, but the CAS panel discerned nonetheless that there could have been a benefit to the club in such an arrangement. Why they thought that isn't material here: the salient point is that the sponsorship wasn't alleged to be inflated.

And that's there in black and white in the CAS award for anyone who cares to read and digest it. Yet you outline this to people - even successful professionals - and they simply refuse to believe it. Depressingly, they choose instead to believe bad-faith, wholly partial clickbait drivel peddled by financially and legally illiterate clowns in the sports media.

Unfortunately, given that the charges have been laid, we can't expect media outlets not to mention the fact when we win the title. But the feverish nature of the reporting with the relentless 'no smoke without fire' subtext is risible. After all, the CAS proceedings showed an incompetent regulatory body pushed into an unwise and unlawful decision by malevolent pressure from venal, grasping member clubs.

One hopes that the PL hasn't been manoeuvred down the same track. But it's at the very least a possibility that they have, and, for that reason, any media outlets whose coverage doesn't refer to the prospect of City being vindicated are patently lacking in journalistic integrity.

Good post and just picking up the PL position. I'd imagine that they're not too happy about the fact that a title win is clouded in these allegations. We all know they were forced down this road. It's not good for the competition to have question marks over its best team. They want positivity and integrity and as much money as possible. They don't want doubt to surround their title winners and sponsors to worry that they're not conducting themselves properly.

The best outcome for the PL is for the charges to be assessed and the PL to categorically confirm there were no breaches.

As per my previous post, we'll still be guilty of course. But I don't think the PL can "afford" to have a CAS style ruling where there's still a fine. I think they have to either punish us or let us off completely. Any fine will be too small and lead to more questions than answers.

The plan is for the start of next season as its supported by all parties there will be a "shadow regulator" until a permanent appointment is made

Thanks for that. Fair enough.

I think a year is about right from white paper to law, so that would be about right. I will be quite surprised in this case, as they have to work out what the regulator does first, and then it depends on whether it has teeth immediately in the face of any existing contractual arrangements.
