Crap. No idea what he did to get brought into the first team in a team like this. Nothing short of a miracle
To be fair to him, he was probably signed as a CFG player. I doubt we intended for him to be part of the squad but he was kept because we missed out on Cucurella. He will almost certainly be moved on in the summer.

The whole team was poor, yet he is the scapegoat. Why, because he let the cross in? So did others, it just didn't end with a goal, not his fault. Not a great performance, but I thought he was ok (good going forward, a few shaky moments defensively). Here is a statistical perspective (posted this elsewhere already). The whole team, with a few exceptions, played badly. He wasn't any worse than that.

Really poor on the goal but so was walker and palmer too. Theres a very very long way for him to go yet but felt he shown a marked improvement in his defensive awareness, covered danger pretty well, most noticeably in thr first half.

To judge any City player so negatively in this game is absurd. More than half the team were players who would not be automatic starters, several with few starts this season. We played a team away who finished 1 point below Spurs and above teams like Crystal Palace, fulham and others who have tested us. We lost by a goal, judge each of today's players when they play a game with a full squad available.

The best thing that can be said about him is that it’s still been better paying £10mn on a League One player than £60mn on Cucurella.

But he needs moving on in the summer as he’s nowhere near good enough.
The fact we were in for Cucarella at £60 mill who is fucking shite and ended up with Gomez who is even worse means someone at the club needs a kick up the arse !

Wasn’t he a Vinny recommendation, who has played at all age levels for Spain?!

He signed for Anderlecht in June 2021. By the end of his first season in Belgium, he had made 49 appearances for the club across all competitions and was named the club's player of the season, before City took a cheap punt on him!

Palmer and Gomes would do well for burnley.

They would improve many teams.
That said, we have to keep a squad that contains players who can step in and do a job. Let’s also not forget that these are two 22 yr olds (Palmer turned 22 this month!) who have played in double figures games this season to get their feet wet and play a part in the supposed “best team in the world!”

If either we’re getting 10-12 games a season with Real or Barca at this age, people would be calling them €50M prospects, but because we see them regularly and recognize they are not first team regulars, or even close YET, we decry them with faint praise like “they’d do well for Burnley.”

It‘s great to have high standards, but it is just as important to not act like our shit doesn't stink or, conversely, that our “non-16 man team prospects” need shipping out.

We finished the game at Brentford, against a team that lost only 2 games at home this season, full of “second team” players, which makes playing in the team considerably harder. Yet, we had FOUR ACADEMY players on the field (Charles, Palmer, Lewis & Foden) in key positions through the spine of the team. We lost to a stuffy goal, in the 84th minute of a dead rubber, that was never going to see first team players used as subs to try to win the game! I’ll take that and the development it aided.

I wish we wouldn’t, as a Bluemoon community, constantly decry talent that isn’t quite at its zenith, or isn’t tearing up the place, YET, because they are players that are needed for our development as a club and to help fuel the future. That might be as a first team regular as they develop into. 24-25 Yr old, or it might be as a player sale to another team that loves technically proficient players who have been developed with a pedigree that cannot be denied. However, whatever it turns out to be, let’s be SUPPORTIVE of their development, especially given it is so difficult to get a chance on the field for City, given we are always going for a Quadruple at the start of the season and STILL going for a Treble this season.

Good luck to all the lads, because who knows who is going to help get us over the line in some game or other that might bring us glory?!

I understand the points you want to make however, both players mentioned are not up to the level required to start for city. They are good players who will have good careers just not with us. It’s not about supporting or faint praise. City set a high bar and the players mentioned allowed us to rest key men against Brentford. You can have the opinion that a certain player does not have the required attributes to survive at city. They have been taught a lot and we should see a profit again which is great.

No need for supportive or faint praise digs. I believe both players would do a good job at Burnley under a manager who would continue their development.

The strangest signing we have made in recent times, clearly not good enough and neither does he look to have the ability to reach that level.A shame as his attitude looks superb.

BANG ON. Too many negatively judge our players too soon. Rivals can do that, but not our own...surely?
22 superstars does not work - we have to have squad players who are happy to provide cover to the main group. As those players develop, they could become the main stays.

Modric was voted the worst signing in Spain in his first season

Benzema & Vini were undermined by many Madrid fans at the beginning of their careers in Madrid

Zinchenko wasn't good enough for PSV 1st team and they sent him to play with their 2nd team

Players can improve.
Gomez is light years behind Modric Benzema and Vinicus jnr . He also nowhere near Zinchenko levels who was also a fringe player for us .
