Rice wouldn't be a "backup", we are now playing with two DMs so it makes perfect sense we'll target a DM. Phillips out, the 3 of Rice, Rodri and Stones playing in the 2 positions, with rice and stones also able to play in defense. perfect player and perfect transfer.

Rice, Gvardiol and Kovacic? Looks like we are getting bigger lads into the first team.
Funny isn't it, when not so long ago Pep was the man who wanted eleven diminutive midfield players.

I think it was Karen Carney recently who said she sat pitchside at the Madrid game and was struck by just how physical dominating this City side now was. I've heard the same mentioned in commentary a few times recently too.

Perhaps Pep will become known as the manager whose team scored 200 goals in a season using just central defenders, defensive midfielders, and Haaland!

I just can’t see City giving up on Phillips after one season, he’s also expressed the desire to stay and prove his worth and I think the club look for that fight in players. Look at the transformation in Grealish, there’s nothing to say Phillips won’t get a chance and grasp it next season. They saw something in him to begin with, that doesn’t just disappear and add to that he’s said publicly he’s gotta come out of his shell more and get involved.

The man truly is brilliant with his ability to evolve.

Txiki and pep do know best, some random baggage handlers opinion means fuck all, and some opinions aren't worth posting, but people think they know better and post shite anyway so they are rightly told that their opinion is of no consequence
Is this not the legacy of the internet and the dawn of social media? Everybody thinks their opinion matters.

The thing is, if they sell to Arsenal, every club in the world will know they'll have cash and will be looking for a DM (us included). If we offer cash + KP they'll definitely save up some time and money.

I half agree, but Grealish was getting an amount of game time last season, but Phillips has been basically frozen out. TI can't recall a decent money signing, probably since his namesake "Buster", coming with a good reputation, but playing so little, hardly even getting a run in the cups.

Unbelievable achievement but I don't think it necessarily means us fans can't ever question any logic in his transfer policy for the rest of his time here. Particularly so when we're talking record breaking fees or near to for a player we know a fair bit about. If he signs for 100 million and works out a treat, I'll be delighted to be proven wrong. Until then, it's just a fans forum and everyone will hold their opinion.
Of course we can all question the logic I’ve questioned th logic of Rice many times, just that when I question Pep on it I understand than it’s highly unlikely he’s wrong I’m right so my opinion is most likely wrong.

Rice may mean we go 2 DMs and more traditional fullbacks if we get into that market, and have the 3-2 formation as a backup in case of emergency

I think Pep will tweak players roles over the summer going forward with this formation. He invented it based around the players we had at the time but we might see a slight change in that going forward. For instance Rodri/Rice playing in front of 3. Rice has every ability to drop back if needed and can also carry the ball.

My only thinking is that’s surely not why we wanted to sign Bellingham and Rice is an alternative to Bellingham. So maybe we will still see Stones/Rodri and see rice as a box to box, or even Stones/Rice and Rodri getting more freedom.

Might as well close the transfer section down, since Txiki and Pep knows best, whats the point of fans having opinions about transfers anymore? ”What do I think about this player? Dont know, have to ask Txiki first since his opinion is apparently also my opinion”

Well sorry but no one really wants to read you having a hissy fit because the best manager in the history of football likes Declan Rice, but @Vester or whoever wrote the original comment thinks he’s no improvement on Kalvin Phillips and the club can’t afford him.

There’s plenty of ways of discussing transfers and sharing our own opinions on players without trying to pretend we know better than the people who’ve made this club the best side in world football with a 90%+ success rate for transfers and can predict somethings going to be a disaster.

I don’t think Rice will join but I’m sure Pep will use him more as a b2b rather than a pivot with Rodri

The best manager in the history of football also liked Kalvin Phillips. Sorry, didn't know this was a cult and that we are not allowed to have our own opinions, only opinions that are the same as Tixikis are allowed. I have seen Declan Rice play 50+ times but now when I just read that Pep and Txiki likes him I no longer think he is mediocre, I now think he is world class. Unless they dont buy him, then I think he's mediocre again. Or whatever they think, since we are apparently not capable to have our own opinions about a player, we should just think whatever this other person think. Like all smart people do.

You could just do what I said, which is express your personal reservations about the player while conceding that Guardiola knows what he's doing and the club is in safe hands so there's no reason to break out the chicken little impression.

Bear in mind the comment I replied to didn't just give their opinion, they were lambasting other users for not sharing their doom-mongering.

Harvey Barnes.
FFS Barnes has a ring to it alright.

I can picture him signing his contract...
