PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I just don't have the strength to deal with fans of other clubs on this thread. I'm not even sure what you are doing here?
That's a little disappointing to read. I'm a member of this forum and find this topic an interesting and important one.

I'm not getting 'involved' involved, due to probably not knowing enough about the minutiae. My only material input thus far has been along the lines of 'isn't Miguel Delaney a slippery twat?', the insight of which was gleaned from previous interactions with City fans here who worded me up as to Mr Delaney's journalistic pedigree.

Fair play though, you are possibly the first person ever on the forum to take offense to a smiling emoji :)

I don't agree with FFP and don't think the charges will stick, but the idea that rich and powerful people are somehow above suspicion is one that I find bizarre.

That's not to suggest that our owners are anything but paragons of virtue, but the World is absolutely full of the rich, the powerful, royals and politicians who absolutely don't care about rules. The UK is considered one of the least corrupt countries in the World, but our politicians, corporations, royals are up to shady shit constantly.

As I said, I don't believe these charges will stick, and I think City are being targeted unfairly, but putting your trust in powerful people is a one way ticket to a whole world of disappointment.

I agree with your sentiments about the rich politicuans, jeez if I had to rely on them.

The fact that hey claim we are state owned rather than Sheik Mansours personal investment, however the state owned companies are skint so sheik Mansour pays it himself despite…..

It’s all lunacy & they tie themselves in knots.

Never forget that the real fraud is "Financial Fair Play". Nothing we may, or may not, have done comes close to that corrupt charade.
I was laughing recently that the media were claiming it was unfair that Newcastle had announced a new Saudi sponsor for around half of what Liverpool get for their shirt sponsor.

Not one journalist commented on the irony of FFP dictating a team that finished 3rd can only hope for 50% sponsorship of a team that finished below them - and even worse somehow think this deal is unfair to the old Sky 4 teams that get double !!!

Great point the State own City but poor old Abu Dhabi/UAE are so skint the Sheikh has to bail them out to.meet the sponsorships. Its such rubbish a 6 year old wouldn't write it bit most of the country believes it.

I thought Etisalat started sponsoring City in 2009 and the 2012 contract was a renewal rather than something new? Which puts a rather different light on the allegations about backdated payments.

Iirc, Etisalat 2 is the only one of the sponsorships where it can be shown that ADUG paid money to the club (as an advance whilst payment was being processed by Etisalat) to cover the amount owed by the sponsor. It wasn't accounted for particularly well, but that is hardly the "gotcha" they are looking for (the money from ADUG imo should have been recorded by the club in a short term current account, rather than a reduction of the receivable from Etisalat). It certainly isn't an indication of fraud to me as an (ex)accountant as, afaik, the contract was fair value and completely fulfilled each year by the club and (eventually) by Etisalat. Also, it's not material to the balance sheet (and doesn't impact revenues or losses at all) and so doesn't distort the true and fair view given by the accounts. And Delaney suggesting that the way Etisalat was handled proves there was something wrong with Etihad is just so childish it doesn't even warrant consideration. The circumstances were completely different and Etihad will be judged, once again, on its own merits, of which there are plenty.

All imho, of course.

Hopefully the virtual trams will offer a better service.
But to get the most authentic experience, the VR tram will break down on-route to the match and you will actually be late for the VR match itself! Of course it will be pissing down, so the 4-D effect will include a misting device on said VR headset to get you piss wet through (you know, that famous Northern drizzle that soaks you through!) :-)

It is what it is. My over-optimistic hope is that the overseas virtual fans will subsidise tickets for match-goers. The spectacle has to have a crowd. Football is huge now, possibly the UKs biggest export, which is not saying much these days!
Count me in over here in Buford, GA!! No empty seats on my settee here !!!

I was wondering if the Chairman’s very restrained comments on this issue during his state of the nation interview and the appearance of Ceferin in Manchester a few days later making mea culpa noises about the Champions League final fuck up are linked and significant.

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn there were high level discussions between the Club, The FA and UEFA to make this situation go away as quickly as possible.
THIS !!!

If you really have been following this thread, you will have seen that the number of people joking and having a laugh on here is approximately zero. This is deadly serious stuff to the club and the fanbase after the 15 years of shit we have had to deal with. In fact, it is the fanbase that has borne the brunt.

Look, you are generally a fair poster but let me suggest to you as I have to other fans of other clubs who come on this thread. By all means follow the thread, ask questions if you are generally interested, but don't make any comments unless they are supportive. Feelings are still raw on here. I'm surprised you don't get it.

Found this on twitter and it's quite a contrast of comments compared to this one 25 years ago:

Can I reiterate once again that the independent and every other mardarse bitter publication are accusing Sheikh Mansour, deputy prime minister of The UAE, an Emirati Royal and a professional politician, of lying, knowingly covering up sponsorship deals and putting his reputation on the line.
Are these morons aware of the implications of throwing accusations at someone like him?

This isn't going to end well for the WhatsApp group and the Harris wankers and deloony. They are living on borrowed time my pedigree chums.
I’m sure the Sheik is a fine upstanding fellow but the notion that he must be so because he’s “deputy prime minister…. and Professional politician…” is nonsense.

By that logic Boris Johnson can’t be a liar !

Pity Johnson didn't lie to Sheik Mansoor because he would probably have been beheaded, which would have been a very deserved outcome imo

That's the thing my friend - I do get it. Which is why the only two things I've posted are:
1. I believe that the Independent article by Miguel Delaney as referenced today is highly questionable due to the track record of the author (read, supportive!)
2. I did have a smile with someone here who suggested that politicians shouldn't be accused of lying, which I and he both thought was quite funny on reflection!

I appreciate and respect your view of this topic as being sensitive, but I hope you also realise that in this particular instance you've jumped the gun a little. Anyway, all good.

I can promise you I won't be contributing here unless I have something positive and/or helpful to post (doubtful!), and will certainly ask questions if I feel the need to :)

I agree with you that there is more to our involvement with the ESL than meets the eye in that it wasn't a simple misjudgement, but not on this point.

The rules don't give a right of appeal for a reason. Who is going to suggest that it isn't "fair" if the judgement finds against us. It would be met with universal approbation across the media and the people concerned would be feted as the "saviours of football".
My point is that the disapproval would come from within the legal profession not the brainwashed media.

Delaney is certainly a slimy twat.

It takes a little interaction and paying attention to his work before you can see how agenda driven some/he are. When you really look into their work, it becomes obvious.
The more Delooney & Harris peddle their shite the less notice you need to pay, as their jibberish is obvious. Harris just last week rehashed some shite in the mail about the CFG’s multi club strategy, he even wrote it broke no rules but continued to mumble on about how it was not fair and implying it was against the rules.

A few of the journalists pinned their colours to the mast years ago. City have made them look very very silly.

Delooney has now had a long running beef with certain City fans who’ve continually highlighted his gross hypocrisy and inadequate journalistic ability.

Regards the matter at hand, most City fans are confident, that comes from a few angles, such as the clubs unwavering confidence, the general level of incompetence of the charges, the huge leap taken by the PL. I think intelligent fans of most clubs would put their money on City to swat these away eventually.
