This is one I keep hearing from them. That their 1999 team were ‘all homegrown players’.

yeah thats a beaut fairplay. i hear that all the time!

and the " if it wasnt for the oil money you'd still be in div 2" ... thats always a classic. despite the fact we were in the prem for about 6 years before the takeover

Not so much aimed at City but I do love how ex-United players and fans won't refer to the Carabao Cup by its name. It is constantly referred to as "a trophy" yet had they won any of our 3 it would have been referred to by name.

Thick cockney prick cost England the World Cup
 
Just had a bit of tit for tat nonsense with a rag at work. It started with him pointing out that they won the treble with x amount of academy players. I responded (I generally just ignore the pricks) with a dig about us doing it as champions.

Now his response was why I've posted on the thread because apparently they were champions as the league was won on the 16th May 1999 and the treble was completed on 26th May 1999 so they were infact champions of England.

Rags are all the fucking same. They'll scrape the very last bit of the barrel to convince themselves that their achievements are somehow bigger and better than everyone else's. Imagine being like that?

I shouldn't have engaged.

The point the guy doesn't seem to get is that United weren't PL champions in 1998( Arsenal won it that year).
So when they entered "The Champions League" in 98/99 season, they weren't actually champions of England.
City won the PL in 2022, and thus entered the 22/23 Champions League as English champions.

What a dick. They entered their treble winners season as runners-up. They’d go in the following years competition as champions.
You can’t fix stupid.

Thing is mate, he knows full well when I say that they didn't win it as champions that it means that they were not the current champions of England when entering and winning that European Cup. Yet he says what he says with a smug look on his face and with absolute conviction.

I just laughed and said OK. I couldn't do much more as in his head they did their treble as champions and that's that.

My workplace is probably 80% rags. I hear a lot of shite about how better their achievements are in comparison to ours on a regular basis but this reply about them seeing themselves as champions of England when winning the treble left me stunned.

I have to add that although it left me stunned, it also left me under no illusion just what mongs I'm dealing with day to day.

Back to smiling and nodding from now on, safe in the haven of City pissing all over them.
