Fixtures Calendar - 2023/24

Rags are playing at 8 a few weeks later so it looks like it might be something we will see more of.
It follows on from the agreement they made 2 years ago, bar 15 mins later now and nothing new really.

I think the Sky tea time game moved from 5.15 to 5.30 at some point didn’t it?

If so, that’ll probably explain why the 7.45 slot has moved forward 15 minutes as well.

The gap has been standardised to 2.30hrs yes.

Until 15 years ago it was 1245 and 1715, games started getting longer, more adverts and pundits changed to 1230 and 1730 in 2008/09.

The Sat 1945 slot first came in as a one off in 2017/18 I believe, Spurs away was out first the day before we won the title, following a 1730 game.

From a personal point of view 8pm is a pain as I work Sunday’s and I wont get home until 1am ish. But I do that in midweek matches and although occasionally I wonder if I really should - I manage. And I prefer 8pm to a 12:30 kick off - which I always find awkward to get to and if its an away match so I am watching on tv - it messes up doing much else that day. So I’m sure for TV companies even their UK audience is going to be higher for an 8pm kickoff than 12:30pm - so makes sense for them.

As to match going fans - it does depend on a host of things - I suspect, many will enjoy a Saturday doing something else and then an evening at the football. Away fans will make a weekend of it and most importantly of all, the players will get a better rest from the Wednesday match that 12:30 would have offered.

I have sympathy for people who have to travel a long distance. But that’s part of the deal I suppose when you move away or support a non local team.

Personally I love evening home games. I’m probably the only person in the ground who’s favourite TV slot is Monday night. For home games anyway.

So September is 4 Saturday 3pm kickoff times.two away from home thank goodness for my iptv. I can't believe how many years I paid Virgin media £100+ for sky and bt and still had to listen to the radio several times a season. CTID

Off topic I know but I'm intrigued by this IPTV business. Any chance of a PM to point me in the right direction old chum? I just a steer to get started.

Get yourself to the games rather than listening on radio.

Tell that to my 5 year old grandson season ticket holder in the family stand. There is absolutely no reason why it can't be 7.00 p.m. Which is a better time for return travelling. He comes to every home match and doesn't live an hour away . He comes from County Durham and it's about a 3 hours drive to get here. I love evening games but unlike midweek they can be put on that bit earlier. So it's not a chore. It's just sensible to consider travelling fans, in particular away supporters.

That's a really big commitment, fair play to you travelling that far. Night games were out of the question for me when I was his age, unless it was a one off or in the school holidays. There won't be many 8pm Saturday games for us, but I can see them becoming popular for fans who live locally to the ground.

Sunday would’ve been shite.
may mean last few years when BT couldn't show a 12:30 sat game they moved it to 12:30 sunday, but TNT obvipusly think 8pm saturday is a better option and suits the companys core base of US watchers

expect any TNT picks where a team plays a wednesday before may now be moved to this new 8pm slot

spoke to those I normally meet up with or go to games, all bar 2 think this is a piss take, the 2 happy about it live outside Manchester and get a local supporters coach for games so doesn't matter to them, some others have plans because no one expects to be at the game on a saturday night the rest will now probably drive like they do midweek games.

only this silly old **** who doesn't drive will have to fuck about hoping the 219 turns up (which after 6pm is touch and go on a normal night) to schlep home and our usual saturday pre match meet up for a 5:30 ko is out the window
