I accept Coutts is a private bank, i am talking later, in years to come, when they could dictate what we do. If we ignore the Co-Op bank that had a coke sniffing prostitute loving bloke in charge, all banks are of the right wing persuasion, business is king etc. What is to stop them doing a reverse Farage because your politics are wrong.
The reason your voting card has a unique number on it is to tell Special Branch who voted Communist. OK we've moved on, but they have always monitored us. Banks could do the same.

Worst thing that happened was contact payments in pubs.

When I used to hand over a £20 note, I knew the value of that.......now all this tap tap tap malarkey, it's too easy to spend money
Also, in a pub, when they say "5.60" or whatever, how many of us actually check the amount on the card thing??

Oh yeah - and with ATM's disappearing from the high street, what also gets on my tits are these cash machines in corner shops etc that charge me £2.75 (or whatever) to draw some money out

The way my phone is set up if I either pay on my card or via Google pay I get a message pop up on my phone instantly, telling me exactly how much the round was. So I can see pretty quickly if they are trying it on.

Fair do's, I just wonder where its going. The vulnerable will be the ones that lose out. If you're homeless but then get help with a house, can you still access benefits as you need a bank account ?
Banks are a business purely designed to make profit. The poor are not the customers banks want.

If people want to wave a bit of plastic around then that's fine, but because they are of that mind it doesn't mean everyone is.

People should resist it until they have barcodes printed onto their eyes at birth and instead of having money they just get a credit allocation.

I like reading dystopian books and im reading one at the moment where all hate speach, opinions that dont conform etc are illegal and can effect credit scoring, employment etc. the books a bit fun really , but like 1984, we should surely question things ?

I was just making a humourus observation. If you were really that worried you would not have a phone, laptop or be on this forum. You would like to only use cash but to get that you need a card. To get a card you need an address and id. To get those thing s you will at some point be credit checked. The information and control that people believe they can stop is already in place.

Was in Bridgnorth today and saw a couple of shops with signs saying no card payments below a certain amount, and a cafe said they would add 20p to card payments to cover processing costs imposed by the banks. There's also the added cost of getting to a bank when required as the bastards are closing so many local branches.
