Trevor Francis RIP

Heart attack in Spain..not sure if he had heart issues, hot weather won't help if he did. RIP Trevor

2 particular memories of Trevor Francis, The first was on a playing field at Loughborough University - where I was a student. The University team were due to play Forest Reserves and there was a rumour that Francis - on his way back from injury was going to be playing for Forest, and there he was gliding across a pitch we had been knocking a ball about on the day before. Needless to say the 50 minutes or so he played were sheer class.

And then of course his arrival at City - he had superstar status and this felt like a real coup for us at the time. His skill summed up by the goal he scored v Wolves in December - it wasn't on television, so you just need to rely on our memories - The ball came to him 25 yards out just beyond the right (attacking) corner of the penalty area - he seemed to have a defender covering him, when suddenly he spun and in one graceful movement lashed the ball into the net. The place exploded and we went home top of the league. It was joy to have seen him play and to enjoy almost one season with him in a City shirt - even if it was a bit financially overstretched.
Went that game, think it was near enough the end of the game, my recollection is a bit different to yours but it was a great goal. He was a true superstar. RIP.

His year at Maine Road was pretty memorable despite the injuries. Remember him headbutting someone and being sent off and scoring a spectacular goal which was disallowed.

A classy player.

RIP

Met him when I was 10 when he joined City. He was brilliant and we were top of the table at Xmas. He had an achilles injury which I think reduced his appearances after that and we dropped down the league. He was sold at the end of the season. A class act. RIP Trevor Francis.

Well that's a real shocker really sad about that, remember his debut at Stoke scored 2 what a striker he was, gutted so sad for his family no age.

Definitely in my top ten moments seeing his debut at Stoke. The pre match excitement and his class performance.
What a player.

Still get goosebumps thinking about his debut vs Stoke - one of the biggest away followings I can remember (excluding Wembley, FA cup semis etc)

My Dad drove us up from Birmingham to Stoke - never been so excited ahead of a game.

Football is about dreaming - and he made us dream of success that day

Thanks for the brief memories of him in a City shirt. RIP.

I went to see City play Coventry away 12th December 1882 we won 1-0 (Tueart).

I went as a guest of the Coventry Physio (George??) and had access to the Players lounge after the game. Trevor Francis walked in with a stunning Blonde on one arm and a beautiful brunette on the other, both dripping in gold and looking stunning. I have his autograph somewhere.

The only other outstanding feature was the entrance of Bond... Kevin Bond. He entered with a nice girl on his arm and a Deerstalker hat, was unreal.

RIP Trevor. We will all miss you.

Very sad news, was at his debut in Stoke
Francis 2, Birtles, fabulous player who sadly had too many injuries
