Istanbul CL Final chaos | City Matters statement (p 133)

That was my policy and turned out the best thing I ever did
We got a taxi to the stadium after we found out it was a 2 hour queue just to get on the shuttle buses at Yenikapi. Afterwards, a mate talked us all into getting the Metro back when we saw just how many people were heading for where the buses were and I'm glad we listened to him.

Also, regarding the Metro, I thought UEFA said it was a 25 minute walk from there to our end but it certainly didn't feel like a 25 minute walk to the Metro stop after the game.

In Porto there were hundreds of club staff posted all over the place, inside and outside the stadium, pre and post match, and directing people to pre-assigned buses, which had free food and drink packs when you boarded
Wonder why it was so different for people this time?
Were the club not allowed to bring their own security staff?
Or did they try and cheap it out by contracting to Sportsworld who themselves did it on the even cheaper?
I got the metro there and back, best decision we ever made - even though we were strictly told beforehand and especially afterwards by UEFA not to use it - but still interested in the club’s own potential involvement in this fiasco for so many
Porto was also organised with much leas notice.

I too decided to disregard UEFA's rather strict 'guidance' for City fans to use the so called 'shuttle buses' & took the metro both to the game & afterwards.

Its not my first rodeo with UEFA & calculated there's no chance this would go smoothly using the buses with so many Blues, plus I was staying in the Taksim area so it was logistically easier for me to take the metro. I suspected UEFA would make a ballsup with the travel arrangements, but was shocked how wrong they got it especially the scenes at the bus/coach car park after the game - hope videos were posted of this & sent onto Ceferin & his mob.

Whilst I can sort of understanding the thinking of segregating opposition fans at a major final, in retrospect its a rather archaic way of organising a final. Whilst hooliganism is still present within the game, its hardly the 1970's & its not like its a Millwall vs West Ham final. As many other previous posters have stated the Inter fans were a joy to interact with & I didn't see any trouble even after the result.

City Matters have completed their report and submitted it to the club. Alex Howell sent it out to contributors yesterday.

Recommendations are

1/ UEFA should conduct an inquiry as they did for the Paris event
2/ City to improve for areas pertaining to their own organization
3/ Both organizations should publicly acknowledge the issues faced by fans.

Credit to Alex it is a 45 page long report with photos and lots of first person testimony.

Is it going to be available for viewing by all City fans affected?

It was a bit bizarre. We saw the chaos for the bus after the game and set off for the metro, passing thousands of blues going the other way up the hill. We couldn't say "come with us" as we had no idea if the metro still had queues or was even still running. No queue, straight onto largely empty train, and back in a bar by 2.15.

Each train took 2000 people. Inter fans long gone by the time we left the stadium.

If that figure is correct then 20,000 Inter fans or neutrals could have been shifted in half an hour if trains ran every three minutes as they do on the Piccadilly line to Arsenal station. The balance of 40,000 could be shifted in the following hour provided there are enough trains that can access that section of track. And enough drivers.
I'm basing this on 10,000 having priority UEFA transport.
@Vic and his lad were back in a bar by 2.15 whereas the bus we were on was still trying to leave the car park at that time. It was still trying to leave the car park 60 minutes later.

Probably quicker as many were going direct to the airports so had to use the buses.

Hi all. Sorry for the delay in sharing this more widely.

Hopefully the link works for everyone. Let me know if it doesn't.

By way of an update, the club have confirmed that they have sent the report to UEFA.

That must have taken a lot of time and effort to put together, and paints a good picture of the farce it was.
Well done!
