theres lots of options but is difficult to bring one who fits 100%, has champions league experience and is available. But theres names, Barcola, Cherki, Chiesa, Raphinha, Paquetà...

id even venture to say that cancelo can play the position, ive seen him do it before
Definitely Chiesa, & possibly Cherki.

I always suspected Mahrez would be harder to replace than many fans thought.

As they say, you never know what you've got until it's gone...

I’d say it’s worth the gamble since he is one of our own. We got Bernardo as the first name at rw and Phil can take up the back up position if it doesn’t work out.
Bernardo was the more defensively solid option when we couldn't afford to lose a match during the run in.

What we gain with Bernardo out wide, we lose centrally, so in my mind we need a Mahrez replacement.

Both Bobb & Palmer have been tried this summer so far, but apart from flashes, neither have struck me as a viable option.

I don't believe we should ever go back, but if we don't find an alternative in the next 3 weeks, hell I'd even consider Sané if his fee was low & wages affordable.

As it stands, Chiesa's the best replacement I can think of. Szbos... whatever the fuck his name is, would've been a decent shout, but the Dippers got him.

I agree. Bernardo should play as often as possible out wide or in the middle but he's not going to threaten goal as much as someone like Mahrez. Sané in the match today showd his pace and threat it'd be great to have that as an option. But could Cancelo possibly be just as good if played as a winger?

We tried Cancelo there a few times without much success. IIRC, the last time we tried it, he was taken off just after half time in a right strop. He's an attacking FB, who can assist up top or invert into midfield, but as a permanent RW option? It's a no from me.

We need a genuine specialist Mahrez replacement.

Bernardo hardly played centrally, when fit KDB and Gundogan played most games centrally, think this year it will be Kovacic, KDB and one of Foden / Bernardo. Not sure who of Bernardo and Foden will play more centrally but expect the other to play mainly on the right.
I actually think a wide player to back up Grealish on the left is more needed.

I'd go further & say our central midfield should be Rodri, Philips, Bernardo, Kovacic, Foden & Grealish.

This would leave us needing two wingers, with Jack, Phil & Bernardo providing cover. I think this is what Pep's trying to work out with Gomez, Bobb & Palmer.

If a couple if them work this pre-season, it might save us dipping into the market, but as things stand, only Gomez strikes me as a potential option for the season ahead. Anything else & we'd have to enter the market.

He barely had a chance last season. I don’t know how is meant to impress with little to no consistent minutes
He had more than enough chances mate. His limited playing time illustrated what Pep thought of his performances.

In many of those matches, he was mostly anonymous. He needs a full season on PL loan, at a club where he'll play.

Surely Forest, Bournemouth or one of the promoted sides are a viable loan option for him?

What makes you think Grealish is an option for midfield when he’s literally played zero minutes there since he joined?

Leroy is even less of a team player than before he left. It would be great if he could come back but I dont think its possible under Pep.
Has Palmer sorted out a club? He didn't come on today?

Ederson Ortega
Akanji Ake Dias Laporte
Lewis Stones
Rodri Phillips
KDB Bernardo Kovacic
Foden Grealish
Alvarez Haaland

These are our 17 core players. If Cancelo and Walker both stay that's 19.
How many more do we need?
