The rags were scouting him in 2021 and agreed terms with both the player and his club for £4.5m, then backed away from the deal allowing Brighton to swoop in a few weeks later.

Yeah but he'd have been fucking shit if he'd moved to Utd.

Fair to say he dodged a bullet.

Laporte has been decent for us, yes. Definitely not super, can’t see many being arsed if he moves on. He doesn’t seem bowled over by offers from other teams does he? Maybe he is not as highly regarded as you think?
Laporte has been the best left footed centre back in the world since he has joined us. He has been very crucial in how we played by being press resistant and making those passes through the lines of press. Him and Kompany during those last 13 matches to win the league and even when he had to play with one knee in the last few games of the season with Ferni beside him.
He’s a good defender and if the elite clubs had money to spend he would be gone by now. Defensively he’s our second worst but with the ball at his feet he’s our second best defender.

Mcallister had a release clause in the contract he signed pre world cup which is why he went for cheap
I don’t get why caicedo didn’t put a release clause in his new contract he got in February. Seems silly that he was about to leave and then thinks if he signs this deal that would make him more money then it would be easier to leave in the summer.

I think we'll start seeing that more... Putting release clauses in especially with players further down.

We need to have players make up the squad though.

If i was Palmer and i've seen Mahrez leave, i'd want to stay and keep improving, take a step up, to be in Pep's thinking.
I rate Palmer higher than Bobb, but Bobb is Norwegian so good mate for Haaland?

Can’t we keep both in squad, we have Alvarez, Foden and Bernardo who all need more game time so no need to replace Mahrez unless elected option appears? Assuming Bernardo stays and Cancelo also becomes wing option

I just wonder if we should do one additional squad signing this summer. Just read a thread about how the expansion of CL next season will inflate players price across the Europe. Plus a few senior players in PL may want to semi-retire to MSL after the Euro next year because the MSL market grows quickly post pandemic. It will increase the demand. I still think that we can bank one left full back or one CM given we don't have many academy kids ready to fill in those positions + Sergio Gomez is more an attacking player to me. Just saying.

Theo Hernández is my ideal candidates but I know it is pipe dream to expect them to be just "squad signing".

Luke Thomas and Pervis Estupiñán Roméo Lavia sound better to me. Cheap buys and good potential. Even if they don't fit in we can sell for a profit in 2 - 3 seasons. Thomas was not good last season but Leiceister was in a shamble.

Tony Bloom is a raging moron. I’m still completely mystified at his valuations of cucurella and caicedo but lets McAllister go for 35m or whatever. Granted i don’t recall how many years McAllister had left on his contract but hoping teams start telling him to fuck off relatively soon
"Tony Bloom is a raging moron"

He has created one of the best run clubs in football.

What Brighton have done is magnificent, if idiotic clubs want to pay crazy prices for their players it's the fault of the Brighton Chairman? Really? LOL

Maybe there is a release clause but it can't be activated for a season.
There are always two sides to a contract negotiation. No point in Brighton giving higher wages unless they can get more time and or a higher sale value for a player.

But who is he going to replace Caicedo with who is vaguely affordable in the current market? If it was us pre-takeover I'd love him for not just making my club a feeder club for others.

The way that Haaland has integrated into the squad and quickly become mates with quite a few, plus the fact he's an ultimate pro, suggests to me that having a fellow Norwegian in the squad will make no difference to him at all. We're not talking about Kinky and all his mates here

He's anything but a moron. We would have possibly got Cucurella at around the £35million mark we thought he was worth but obviously the idiot at Chelsea decided to swing his dick and told them they'd pay up to £65million(?) so that was game over for us. Amusingly, transfermarkt has his worth at €35mill right now :)

Why wouldn't they try and rinse them again with Caicedo?

tony bloom is a very smart businessman but it may have a long term detrimental affect on their ability to sign players or their ability to negotiate contracts with the, as youd imagine that most players coming to brighton going forward are going to want reasonable release clauses in their contract before they sign on the dotted line

Such as, being able to go for a certain price to a club qualified for the CL, which neither Chelsea nor Liverpool are, hence the fight over Lavia ?

No it won't, McAllister had a release clause but you can bet your bottom dollar that any player who insists on one will be offered less signing on fee and/or wages to compensate for the club losing out 12/24 months later. It's swings and roundabouts in all contract negotiations.

Good luck with that PSG madrid will sit tight and might bid with 2 days of the window left and bid max 100m
I wouldn't even bid 100m for him at this point.

I'd either bid about 50m or just bid to take him on loan and get his 72m€ a year wages off PSG's hands.

Just to wind up that c*nt Al Khalifi.

Find it weird when I hear read that Chelsea need this play that player when they spent 800m on player last 14months so why did they buy these players? Money laundering?
