we need a left sided no8 who can help in attack and defence. the match against arsenal and other preseason games made it clear. de bruyne, foden and mcatee are no10s and doesn't contribute enough in defense and first two are right sided platers, kova and bernardo when playing in midfield doesn't create enough (except for 18/19 season bernardo plays risk averse football from midfield). So we do need someone like paqueta, basically a gundogan replacement.

with Harry Kane, he plays for England, the leader and yes we dislike Spurs historically. But his role on England as one of its best players a massive factor, I believe, as there’s a constant state of negativity around the national team. That was before his penalty miss.

On the other hand, look at Phillips. Is Rolan in England was lesser and has a shorter track record.

We were mostly very high on signing him from his earlier England performances, well regarded by many fans in England, and I believe from when he played against us, and under a manager Pep holds in high regard.

So I don’t think we’re all think players from different leagues are automatically more interesting and Garner more excitement from our supporter base.

We can look at the reactions to rumors about signing Doku, Sane, Dias, or even Fernandinho.

Do we really recall overwhelming positive feedback from us even on here?

I know another forum of city fans I post on would also show that more than a few of our fans were dubious about the signings and fees.

I would say this shows how this comes from understandable lack of familiarity with a good enough number of other players from leagues or clubs we don’t tend to watch.

Or when we’ve seen them not been so great even Gvardiol did not do great against us or stand out, and that influenced some of us surely. With Bernardo and some may not recall Mandy fans were excited, because both of them perform very well against us in CL.

So with foreign players in foreign leagues, or from England playing in foreign leagues, I think you will find there may also be a similar reaction.

So perhaps any questions or concerns or negativity about players we are rumor to target or are linked with is more about being too familiar or too unfamiliar with whatever our “eye tests” tend to tell us.

Kane is completely unique. His talent level didn't factor in for 99% of fans.

Reasons City fans didn't want him;

His age
His price
The fact we had a boyhood city fan phenom about to come on the market and signing Kane blocked a decade of Haaland.

I don't think anyone cared he was from the prem.

No... City will pay what West Ham think he's worth or they don't get him.

No different to our valuation of Bernado when Barca showed an interest. put up or shut up.
 
Caicedo to Liverpool is very astute.

Why?

Because there's a good chance one of him and Macallister isn't very good.

By buying both together it increases the chance of them maintaining what they did for Brighton.

For every Gundogan there's a Mhkytarian and there's a chance one of those is just that.

Do you think Rice is world-class? He turns 25 in January and has only now joined Arsenal. For me, nothing is black and white in life or football. Paqueta played for Lyon and AC Milan, two top clubs already. West Ham got him because the PL is the richest league in the world, so the likes of West Ham can sometimes get someone out of their league, skill-wise.

I mean his overall game could improve just being around players who are better than the ones at West Ham. I’m in the same boat that I think he’s overpriced and we are going to have to pay that now. Don’t think Gundo was elite when he joined us he gave the ball away a lot when he joined but improved massively as years went on.

Grealish and Rice examples are not correct as it was their first move away from boyhood clubs. Would David Silva or Ozil be playing at Everton or Southampton at age of 25? If we are signing him, I hope he turns out to be great but he is giving me Nolito vibes.

Exactly this.

Some people want all our signings to have come from Real/Barca/Bayern but we’ve built a treble winning squad, and won 5 of the last 6 league titles, off the back of players who have come to City to make a name for themselves.

Our strongest back 5 is made up of signings from the clubs below:

Benfica, Bournemouth, Everton, Leipzig

Fair enough, it's opinions and all. Let's all hope you are wrong. This thread is like 50/50 regarding Paqueta. If I were to choose one particular reason why I think he would turn out great, it's because Pep has liked him since his Flamengo days. If there is someone out there who I really trust as far as spotting talent, it's Pep.
