9/10 ??? Our squad is significantly weaker than it was 2 months ago. Gvardiol is hopefully a nice upgrade on Laporte. Kovacic is good but no doubt a downgrade on Gundo. Doku is an exiting prospect but not even comparable to Mahrez. Nunes is a much, much worse player than KDB who is out half the season. If Cole leaves this window couldnt have gone much worse. 3/10.

We can't possibly judge for a few months, but undoubtedly we're in a period of transition.

Since the 3-2 over Villa (only 15 months ago) we've seen Jesus, Fernandinho, Sterling, Zinchenko, Mahrez, Gundogan, Laporte, and probably Cancelo all depart. That's 8 of the 14 players who featured that day.

Forget the transfer fees, the biggest indicator will be the games where the opposition are looking reasonably comfortable.

Last Season it was Mahrez (Stamford Bridge) and Gundogan (Goodison Park) who made vital contributions.
Can the new players replicate in such a short period of time?

The disrespect from so called fans towards players that won everything with us really is remarkable. Mahrez, Gundogan, KDB out half the season, big talent Palmer potentially out. Kovacic, Doku, Nunes in.. "stronger". Alright mate.
Disrespect, you want to go down that route?

How about Gundogan pissing us around all summer whilst he waited for Barca to cash in the tellys down at CEX so they could afford his wages. He left us high and dry after everything we have given him and how the season ended.

As for Mahrez, one whiff of a bumper pay day in Saudi and he couldn't wait to pack his bags.

Get in the real world.

KDB injured, not ideal but you move forward, not a single player on planet earth can replace him so you find an alternative.

Big talent Palmer, clearly not in the eyes of one of the greatest coaches of all time, who is more qualified to make that decision than him?

Kovacic in, already looks like hes been here years. Providing us with coverage in midfield positions, will pop up with assists and chances created and also a trusted ball carrier.

Doku, talent.

Nunes, prem proven, talented and at a prime age to kick on and go to the next level.

9/10 if Nunes signs, how can you not be impressed with Kovacic, Gvardiol, Doku, and Nunes?

9/10 would be Laporte, Gundogan, Mahrez out and Gvardiol, Bellingham, Doku in. For a 10/10 change Doku to Kvaradona or Wirtz.

And since half of those left, we've won the treble. I'm not saying that we'll repeat that again this season but I suspect we'll be just fine.

You could just say that we could literally sign anyone and you would still call it a 9/10 window, would have saved you some time.

It's all if's n buts.

How do we know Gundo and Mahrez at the age they are wouldn't be out half the season with injury or tired legs due to age?

The squad has to be refreshed every few years. Just look what's been going on down the swamp the last few years. Signing has beens or one season wonders who's best years are behind them.

Gundo and Mahrez on their day are fantastic players.

We manged when the likes of Aguero, Yaya, Silva, Vinnie all moved on to pastures new.

It's called evolving and refreshing. Personally i think we have had a good transfer window.

All players internationals in their own rights. All played at the highest level.

Kovacic and Nunes premier league experience.

Add Gvardiol that was touted by all the big clubs in europe

Then Doku who could be just as good or frustrating as Mahrez and Srerling..

Onwards and upwards!!!!

Awful thread this, some proper shite been written.

We are stronger IMO.

.Gvardiol best young defender in the world and an upgrade on Laporte
.Kovacic is class,different....but just as effective as Gundo
.Doku potentially a world class talent
.Nunes a fantastic back up to Rodri and along with Kova adds the depth we have been missing.
.Walker and Bernie new deals.
.Foden getting opportunity as a 10

If you have issue with any of that, then you want your head testing.

This is of course based on the current situation we find ourselves in. Granted, things may happen that unfold later in the window which change peoples perspectives.

I think it’s been a mixed window personally. Losing Mahrez, Gundo and Laporte (soon to join Al Nassr) is far from ideal but undoubtedly Kova and Gvardiol are both outstanding pieces of business.

I do however, find it truly staggering that we have failed to land a central midfielder (ideally someone that can play 6/8) that can cover Rodri, given the fact Pep seems to be out right refusing to offer Phillips any sort of game time. It’s been concerning to see several of our top targets fail to materialise (Bellingham, Rice, Pacqueta) for various reasons, some of which I don’t think Txiki is to blame.

Overall, on the basis that there are no further incomings i am pretty underwhelmed by the window. Surely the chance to capitalise on the worlds best players is after a treble and revenue record breaking season but it seems the club have other ideas. For context, I think Txiki is an outstanding sporting director and I wouldn’t swap him for anyone else but that doesn’t mean he or the club are immune from criticism.
I’m not sure there is much in life more idiotic than judging a transfer window before it is finished.

I’m with you on all of this mate. We seem to have to go through this lunacy on the forum every summer, and then again every time we suffer a defeat.

Will these idiots ever realise that the club know what they are doing?

So you believe our squad is stronger today than it was 2 months ago? Put the crack pipe down.

I think we’ve definitely become defensively stronger but proof of the pudding and all that.
We have lost goals hopefully with the improved defensive strength I think we’ve added I think we might change our style of play to a more direct and quicker game.

There must be some old farming proverb about judging your harvest by how well the sowing goes that explains why we can’t really assess the window in August.

It’s all about the evolution and has been since the day Pep arrived. We’ve seen us alter our set up time and time again, each one getting pelters at first because they’ve enjoyed the last reincarnation and don’t like change.
Pep adapts to teams adapting to us. It’s why he’s the best and we are the best.

Kovacic is not as rounded and good as Gundogan. Doku, Kovacic, and Nunes had a combined total of 9 goals last season, Grealish also does not score much. We would be heavily reliant on Foden and Haaland for goals.

I'm not disagreeing, but the question was about this specific transfer window, and unlike last year, when we knew exactly what we were getting with Haaland, (and thought we knew about Phillips), we've now signed a couple of players who could be anything from brilliant to inconsistent or injury prone.

I think goals will come from different places, Rodri has already said he feels more confident joining the attack this season because he knows Kovacic will drop in and cover for him.
