Kalvin Phillips

Lacks confidence and it shows. Hiding from receiving the ball and his pass selection wasn’t great either, you could see Kovacic getting frustrated with some of his choices. He’s just not good enough for us unfortunately, it’s plain to see.

Audition failed and a warning sign if we put him anywhere near Wolves and Arsenal.
Seems to be a the fringe, Pushed off too easy, missed tackles and has no influence on the game.

Did ok first half, hopeless second (like the rest of the team, to be fair).
Didn’t show enough to suggest he should be a serious candidate for starting proper matches.

We played a mish-mash team away to a team which is in the CL and has an excellent home record. I doubt we’d have won that game if Rodri played, never mind Phillips.

He did ok
He’s not match fit
Loads of pressure on him
He’s a defensive midfielder so he’s not going to do things that change a game
He’s never really recovered from his injury before we even signed him

He is giving us is all so I respect him for that

Saying all that he won’t be here next season.

He is fucking terrible. Slow as fuck and can’t complete a pass unless it’s 5 yards back to a CB.

There seems to be an idea (maybe he thinks it too) that with Rodri out, he is our guy for the 3 games. No fucking chance. I don’t want him anywhere near this team and if he plays against Arsenal we will get fucking destroyed in the middle of the park. Kovacic, Nunes, Akanji, Bernardo, Rico, Pep…any of them at CDM over this gum-chewing chancer.

An embarrassing number of posters seemingly already wrote out their scathing assessment of him before we even kicked off and couldnt wait to post it.

He was fine tonight and certainly doesn't warrant criticism. I do believe he should be aiming to impress tonight and not just be fine and he didn't do that, but at the same time the game didn't particularly lend itself well to allow a player like him to impress. Rodri puts that performance in, nobody says a word.
