Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

My point is he's remained consistent throughout today which is the single biggest thing fans moan about. Can't really have a go at a ref for actually staying consistent when that's what we beg for.

Ake and kovacic could and should have both been booked way before the hwang second yellow incident but he choose to ref the game much more leniently from the off so we can't then moan at him for not being inconsistent.

I think it's a yellow card 8, maybe 9 times from 10 by the way but given the leniency he showed before that, I can't see too much cause for complaint and then he's stayed consistent for the rest of the game right until the end by not sending doku off.

If he had shown us a series of soft yellows and not sent hwang off then let rip but he's refused the game at a consistent high bar for the whole 90.

Isn't that consistency though?

He certainly was consistent but he’s not applying the laws of the game. However, his fair & even application of his refereeing benefits massively the team playing with 9 men behind the ball. There’s a reason persistent fouling is a caution, only we aren’t seeing that any more.

Pawson is a weak referee. You can determine this from the pauses he takes before deciding. He waits for player and crowd reaction.
He is a populist referee who will officiate depending on who is playing and the backlash he will receive if a decision is given or not.
He will also back heel any controversial decision to var.

Standard of refereeing has never been lower. I thought Pawson was a fucking joke yesterday, then I watched the highlights of the Liverpool game! Something needs to be done immediately. The Premier League clubs all need to put into a big fund to start a program of training ex-players to become professional referees. These traffic wardens and fat coppers they keep giving the jobs to are all fucking useless cunts.

People really need to evaluate the ref objectively. He decided to let things go early on and actually remained consistent with that throughout for once.

It wasn't a definite yellow from hwang but it could have been. however, he could also have booked both ake and kovacic before that incident for worse and choose not to. Then towards the end, Doku gets a second yellow all day if the hwang one was a second yellow, he didn't give that either so he's remained consistent which is all we want.

No issues with the ref at all today. Anybody trying to blame the ref for defeat today needs to take the blue tinted specs off.
You clearly watched a different game than the rest of us, congratulations on that
You are correct about his performance "consistent" he allowed Wolves to foul consistently without punishing them, they left a foot in, pulled shirts and arms and what did he do about it? nothing. The tackle on Walker, second one, was closer to a red than a yellow, even Hwang thought so, look at his face, but as soon as he saw who it was he pulled his hand away from his pocket. If he had been given a second yellow he wouldn't have been on the pitch to score the second. Was the ref awarded an assist? He as consistent in how he allowed Wolves players to disrupt play with fake injuries, I accept it difficult for refs. He only allow six minutes was a farce, there were the same amount of time added on in the Spurs v LFC game yesterday I didn't see any time wasting and feel there were less subs. During the six minutes he wasted time himself, by being finicky as to where a freekick should be taken certainly inconsistent as to the rest of his game management, he allowed an additional 35 seconds. His performance was reminiscent of Andy Madley v Everton at home last season at least in that we got a point.
He is a awful weak ref who was the ideal choice for Wolves yesterday and was complicit in their tactics, if someone told me he was training with them last week I wouldn't be surprised.

Not much point complaining any more there’s not one decent ref and the more bollox they try to bring in to improve it the worse it gets

There defo seems to be something afoot with regards to refs this season. I think they’ve all been briefed to give us as little as possible and give the rub of the green to the opposing team. Opposing players are getting away with much much more, whereas ours have virtually no margin for error.

They certainly don’t want us winning it again this season, that’s for sure.

Said it before, there is no justification for "letting more go" or "applying a higher bar" when one team plays a physical defensive game and the other a sophisticated possession game. Leave that to City vs Arsenal or Spurs vs Liverpool, but it happens every week with us whoever we play. It's an easy way of stopping us playing the way we want to play. Level playing field, my arse.

Can you imagine the out cry if Neville was ref'ing one of our games ?

Seriously something needs to be done asap. The standard of ref'ing this season has fallen of a cliff and could end up with spurs winning the league it's that bad lol.

Why it has got so bad this season I havent a clue unless it's the premier league plan to have a different winner every 6 years. Who do I put money on spurs or arsenal ?

It wouldn't be Neville anyway, would be more ex lower league players who want to carry on earning a similar wage once their careers are over.

Reminds me of them adding extra weight to Phar Lap, everyone’s aware why?

You answered your own question. Spurs or Arsenal, time for a London club. Southern jessies need support.

I think they have finally found the way to stop us. Apply a higher bar and watch our plans get booted into orbit. Let's face it, one or two dodgy decisions a week didn't do it. We will see if Guardiola can work his magic this year.

You had me thinking that was a Thai reference (which it was in a way) :)

Good work.

Yeah I believe the name was based on Thai pronunciation of far.

Saw the film years ago, it was a way of the establishment trying to stop the scruffy upstarts ;)

Pep will find a way, I’m not convinced last seasons team was our best but we had added security against the cheating.

We need to find a way of stopping Haaland being man handled & him not being allowed to use his physicality.

Just because no-one is interested, "phar lap" means lightning in Thai.

Anyway, yes it is a conundrum. As is his to keep cool when you are clattered every minute in midfield and on the wings. Not sure Lewis, Bobb and Gomez are strong enough to withstand that. Doku too seems to have a short fuse. Its a problem - that we won't have in Europe and next weekend hopefully.

Feigning injury and going down for a break in play to stop any momentum is becoming the norm. Every ref stops play and the opposition get a breather.

No different today.
The ref should tell both the captains before the match that he will only stop the game for head injuries. Any other injuries should not be dealt with until the ball goes out of play.

Arsenal have had 5 pens already ! Ffs.

Psss and don't forget about the inflated amount of injury time they get in their games when not winning by the 90th minute.
Would it be crazy to think they are the products chosen ones this season

I knew that ……. Oops (The name Phar Lap comes from a Zhuang (southern Chinese) and Thai word meaning 'lightning'.)

Learn something every day.

said it so many times but cramp is not an injury - its just being tired

imagine a player went down and said ‘i need a breather ref’
