Wolves PL (A) | Post Match Discussion

I do keep seeing these stats but I wonder how many of these games had line ups that were somewhat second tier (eg Rodri wasn’t the only key player missing). Regardless, he’s critical as we all know but I’m skeptical of the value of this stat! We don’t need it to know his value!

Fair point didn’t think about that part. Thanks for pointing it out, something to consider.

Agreed the game was better when we just booed the ref or lino...or had a laugh at them ...now its all silly lines, manipulated, they just make up the lines to suit a narrative. They rarely consider when the ball is actually leaving the players foot etc. VAR / Media / Social Media childish tribalism all makes the modern game a bit shit
Fully agree on that.....but too many people wouldnt get paid if we remove the technology so that aint going to happen but Id love it if it did

Hmm this is a strange point to make.

Only twice in the last six years have City not had the best away record, they still won the league in one of them (last year) and came 2nd in the other (Liverpool won it during Covid).

What exactly are you expecting our record to look like? I'd imagine no club in history has ever won the league having a better away record than at home.
I'm only pointing out that we are much more dynamic at home especially in terms of scoring goals. Why is this such a "strange point to make"? It's a point of fact. I said more than once that we are a very god road team. What's the problem? No need to get yourself wound up fella.

Once in a while it doesn't hurt to take a look under the hood. It's called being introspective...

I didn't think he was effective at all on Saturday. However, totally agree with fact he's only been here a few weeks. May not see brilliant things from him until the 2nd half of the season.
Disagree...

That’s just normal. Always was and always will be.

Still a bit miffed how a team of average players - none of their starting 11 would get a place in our team - managed to beat us. We can now only afford to lose two more games I reckon. :-(

It happens every year, Wolves, Palace, Southampton, Brentford. Not sure why anyone would be miffed by it should be used to it.

i was surprised at the amount of times kovacic gave the ball away today, very unlike him
Not a surprise if watched his Chelsea days.

TBH some of his passes in the last few games were too risky and sloppy too. But Rodri & co covered it out.

Kova is more a Hollywood pass style midfielder - better to have a back five behind him.

In my eyes it all goes wrong with the game plan.

You would never get anything out by attacking the wingback from outside if the opposite sits in 541. Even if you get to the byline, the cross can be easily blocked.

Better to attack the space between the wingback and CB. That is the weak link. The only good chance in the first half came from there. Alvarez set piece goal came from there as well. But in the majority of the match we just heavily focused on the left channel trying to beat their WB from outside. We did not put enough pressure in the half space. The ball rarely reached there. Nah...

It just exposed our weakness in the squad. We don't have a recognizable left full back. If there was one holding the width, we can have Doku attacking the half space between WB and CB (or if it is not his thing, Jack maybe).

I never really understand Pep's obsession with wingers holding the width and (almost) never let them dribble/attack directly in the half space like every other teams in the PL do.

That's up to you, but I really hope to see great things from him later in the season.
I wasn't clear, my bad...I meant I disagree that he was ineffective. He was actually one of the few who were trying to amp it up and I would have preferred someone else come off...

I think 5 losses this season and still ok, loads of upside downs. I also think we forget the value of being organised. Liverpool's 9 x men foe example. I also think Foden's goal midweek from Lewis cut back def a team goal in Pep's mould. I think if Haaland ever needs a rest we will look more like our usual flowing team. Individuals dont win you leagues.
