The Conservative Party

You look at all the shit that’s going on with the full steam ahead on open season on migrants, Hs2 going belly up. Then you forget what these twats did having parties in number 10 when we all had to social distance and not see our friends and family for months on end. The party gate drama on C4 is welcome reminder of what the Tories are. Shame on anyone who voted for them in 2024.

Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology Michelle Donelan currently being eaten alive by Victoria Derbyshire on Newsnight.
Kick them out!

Good grief. Science Secretary Michelle Donelan "We've got the best deal on Horizon..." - apart from the one we had.
Just watching her being bitch-slapped on newsnight by the excellent Victoria Derbyshire.
Vicious but fair!

They deliver fuck all, but take your money anyway.

It‘s like ordering a parcel and not receiving it. When you complain, you just get ignored, with no repercussions, and you have to walk away kicking the dust.

They fuck you, they fuck you, and they fuck you.

The real Conservatives are now against this current Tory party. Lots of infighting, the factions remind me of what Labour went through.

and there you have it - the London end will be completed - I so agree with Andy Burnham - had they started at Manchester and Leeds none of this would have been an issue

This sounds like they'd complete the original plan of building from Birmingham to Lichfield to connect with the West Coast Main Line - that was part of phase 1. But the Oakervee report said that they should build to Crewe instead (phase 2a leaving 2b - Crewe to Manchester for later) and that meant not connecting to the WCML further south.

As for using money saved on other improvements in the north, apart from some improvements (e.g. between Huddersfield and Leeds) there are no plans for anything that does not involve HS2.

12.16 One reason cited for cancelling HS2 is to bring forward investment in NPR and Midlands Engine Rail schemes. The Review believes this argument is fawed: Transport for the North, Midlands Connect and northern and Midlands leaders have made it clear in submissions to the Review that for them it is not a queston of either regional schemes or HS2. Both are needed to help transform the economies of the North of England and Midlands. Also, NPR and Midlands Engine Rail proposals are relatively early in their scheme development and any schemes requiring hybrid Bill powers are not yet ready so could not be progressed more quickly.
12.17 Further, NPR and Midlands Engine Rail proposals have all been designed on the premise that HS2 is going ahead as currently planned and use HS2 infrastructure, therefore cancelling the scheme or making significant changes to scope would most likely delay the NPR and Midlands Engine Rail, not bring it forward. Funding allocated to HS2 would not necessarily be repurposed for NPR or Midlands Engine Rail proposals, since as mentioned above funding allocated to HS2 has never been stated as available for alternative uses. If HS2 were cancelled at this stage, there may be limited confidence that these schemes would not also be cancelled at a later date when new calls for transport spending emerge.

(Oakervee report)

Shapps has been deployed this morning to say how great Sunak is.
So far he's sniped at Starmer three times - having gone back on HS2, it's a bit rich to sneer at Starmer for going back on things.

Plenty of snake oil for sale, as usual. He's learned the phrase "digital infrastructure" too.

While I'd welcome any opportunity to get of them, I'm genuinely starting to dread the the run up to the next election. The Tories have set their stall out and they will be campaigning on a ticket designed to sow hatred and division rather than the actual issues impacting our day to day lies. Their language around migration and asylum seekers overlaps with that used by actual fascists over the years. Theyre going after trans people and giving prominence to conspiracy theories around stuff like 15 minute cities. How anyone is still lapping this kind of thing up while they line their own pockets is depressing in the extreme.

Agreed the other parties need to rise to the challenge, most people I know will remember the damage they have done and vote accordingly

The media needs to rise to the challenge too and stop indulging that nonsense. I don't want or need to see labour politicians being asked "can a woman have a penis?" as some kind of gotcha moment. I don't want to be talking about trans women on hospital wards. I want to be talking about how long it takes to actually get onto a ward!
