James McAtee

He was their best player in the first half and before the catastrophic and inexplicable implosion.....that was a freak game/result,it won't happen again, and I'm sure James will develop just fine.

I just watched 30 minutes of the Fulham Vs Sheff Utd match after he came on today and it was genuinely one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen from a team. I actually think Sheffield Utd were somehow even worse than they were against Newcastle. Every week that goes by is making this loan look even worse.

Unfortunately there are some very poor teams this year in the Premier league.
We loaned 2 players , Kabore and McAtee, to Premier league teams and Luton and Sheffield United look like relegation candidates.
They aren't going to learn too much there.

Recall the loan in Jan and send him to a team that knows how to play football!

Kabore hadn't played in England, so wherever he went it was always going to be a steep learning curve. It also has to be borne in mind that his time at Marseille was disjointed. He only played 90 minutes four times.

McAtee should never have gone back to Sheffield United, though I can understand why he did. That said, the club also left it rather late in finalising its deals this summer, so there was precious little time left to arrange things with other clubs in the top league. Not blaming anyone, just think it becomes really difficult for players to get it right.

Remember people were saying the same thing this time last year, it took him until the second half of the season to be starting most games for them.

Yes he’s at the same team now, same manager, but the level has gone up massively, and this time he’s not the only one adapting to the PL level, everyone in his team are too.

You can’t judge a loan after 8 games of the season.

Did you watch him play the last 20 minutes

This response is very strange.

Last seasom even when McAtee was strugglinf, sheffield werent. They were pretty much constantly doing well so McAtee had to adjust to a winning team.

But now that teams quality is much lower than the opposition, so if he has to adjust again to the opposition PLUS the fact his team is poor, he put himself in the worst situation to develop.

This loan was straight up a bad idea, the club should have insisted on much better options im sure were available.

He wasn't going to go to a top premier league team and get regular football.
The current teams in the bottom half are not pulling up any trees
The Evertons, Bournemouths, Brentfords etc. may not have been any better of a fit for McAtee.
I'm guessing the thinking was that he had settled in at Sheffield United and this season was an opportunity to see how he would do with a Premier league team.
He still has 3/4 of a season to show what he can do.

On top of that, when a team is struggling, the loanees are the easiest to drop first.

Leicester under maresca was the best option and by all accounts the player was in Leicester ready to sign when he charged his mind and requested a return to Sheffield. Small time imo and shades of Patrick Roberts returning to Celtic

Don't think it's that simple, he's chosen to go back yes, but also to play at a higher level every week in a team that you know will probably struggle. How is it small time to back yourself like that? Leicester was the easier option.

It might turn out the wrong decision for his development, but the season is long, we don't know what will happen yet. Early signs aren't good but a lot can change

Yep and I bet McAteer is regretting it now! Leicester are after just 11 games 10 points clear of 3rd spot! They are going up and probably with a record amount of points!

He's decided to test himself against PL teams and players, running riot in the 2nd tier in a team that were always going to dominate will teach him nothing new. I'll bet he's not regretting it at all.

@M16 citeh Small time? Deciding to play in the PL for a team that were always going to struggle or a team that may as well be declared champions before they've kicked off the season in Scotland? Strange comparison TBH.

Years ago I'd probably been saying the same but confidence and a winning mentality when young is what will keep you at the top as a player! Playing in the Leicester team winning week in week out confidence growing playing the way pep plays would make him more likely to end up playing for city! Having 40% of the ball a few touches here or there and getting beat week in week out and hammered in game as well will set him back years!

I think you're wrong there.
Going back to the championship was not showing any ambition or progress.
Leicester are no better than they were last year, just better than the rest of the championship.
Won yesterday with goals by Iheanacho and Vardy.
The 3 top teams from last years championship are really struggling so far.
He has taken on a challenge and it is now up to him to take that chance.
Outside of Leicester, where he could he have gone that would be seen as an improvement.

Getting beat week in week out playing a totally different type of football to what we play was the wrong move and he only went there because of his experience last season him being loved by the fans!

If you think that is the case, then that is our clubs fault, not McAtees. Por management if we are allowing players to go to unsuitable clubs.
He is not good enough to get regular football with teams in the top half of the Premier league.
He probably wouldn't even get regular football at Everton or Wolves and they are hardly followers of our brand of football.
