Yeah Phil wasn't an issue today, put a masisve shift in off the ball, tackles interceptions, clearances and winning headers vs Ben White. Then also completed most dribbles and created most chances for us
Feel he's a victim of his own adaptability at times..Dont think he really wants to play on the left. Was asked in recent city video(players reacting to fifa ratings) his favourite positions and he said Rw and Cam.
It's clear as day he doesn't want to be a winger. Everything in his being as a player is telling him to come inside as opposed to hugging the chalk on the touchline.

I worry about how things are going to play out when KDB gets back because one of him, Phil, and Alvarez will be on the bench more times than not, and based on nothing but speculation, he's had enough of sitting on the bench at this point.

Maybe he's just not as good as we think? He's clearly very good, but he's not the player we thought he'd be by now. Alvarez has come in and delivers significantly more than Phil, who seems to look very lightweight all of a sudden - pretty sure he wasn't as easy to knock off the ball 18 months ago
100% this. Don't get me wrong, he's still *just* in our strongest 11 for me and to be in that you have to be an incredible footballer, but he was spoken about as a generational talent and I just don't see it now. I want him to be dragging us through games like today but he doesn't do it.

Has he improved from the season he had in 20/21? Not for me. He looked like the best talent in world football then and I don't think he's the best English talent now.

Begging for him to prove me wrong.

Lazy and passive..
I disagree on the lazy part. I don't think he's lazy in the slightest.

I just don't think he has the football intelligence to switch on straight away when we lose the ball. It takes him too much time to react. There was an example of it today. He lost the ball, threw his hands up in anger and then realised he needed to get back and he did make the tackle.

He is such a natural footballer but I don't think the football brain he has is particularly natural and it's holding him back a bit.

Guardiola is probably the wrong coach for a player like him. He’s turned out just good, which is fine

He also got the ball stolen from him by Jesus and immediately won it back from him. He won the most duels(11, which is a heck of a lot) of any player out there today.

He wasn't near his best I thought he was far and away our best attacker.

I would love to see him given a run of games as CAM. If he is up to the task we would find out. I agree his adaptability is now a slight weakness.

He is the only player capable of playing the silva esq balls into Haaland. I don’t care who we bought for the midfield. He should be finally given a run if games especially with Kev out.

Disappointed with his progression. If pep is happy enough to allow Rico and John time in midfield then he should be doing the same for Foden. Can’t help but feel he is moved about to accommodate lesser quality players.

Time Phil demands the role and either sink or swim. He is our only threat once kdb us out. The rest recycle the ball round and round up and down, side to side.

he scored 1 in 8 games so far in PL, thats not good. currently he is our 3rd most attacking player after Haaland and Alvarez, he needs to score more and get into scoring positions

Kovacic who is not good enough, Bernardo who is currently dogshit and the new kid Lewis start over him in midfield when none of them have any creative bone in their body. It still pisses me we actually bought Doku. We could actually field Foden and Bernardo at the same time in midfield had Palmer stayed.

Not singling him out because no one was good today but he’s the one in the team that needs to be taking the game by the scruff of the neck, like he did in 21/22. We were missing leaders today and he’s got the quality to be deciding games for us in Kev and Rodri’s absence.

He needs a position to stick to, especially at this young age, so he can learn every detail from attack to defence. This is why Saka seems to be constantly improving even though Foden is more talented.

He is either a RW or a LW or a midfielder. Let him play in whichever position it is so he can nail it before moving him somewhere else.

Phil's defensive action involved in their goal was not very convincing. Other than that not as bad as some posts said here...just the same as the rest of the team.

He’s been very poor for that lately but i actually thought yesterday he battled back pretty well in general. Watched the goal again and he did get back with the fullback initially. Then Walker was with him before the long ball got played. So Foden probably thought the defender then had him. Tend to agree with Bernado that everyone just sat and nobody went to press there player before he limped it.

Still absolutely miles off the player i thought he’d be by now though. Maybe we all expected too much from him. A couple of years ago he looked like he’d become truly world class. He’s definitely stagnated.

Had a poor game as was dropping deep all the while to help out Kovacic and Lewis . Needed to be further up the field but just wasn't getting the service.

He actually made some good runs in space on a few occassions, but was not actually played through when the opportunity was there...and he wasnt happy about the decision to not play the ball forwards - so i will support him on that

We are guilty sometimes when the opportunity arises to thread that ball through, to instead opt to go sideways again

It seems no-one wants to risk taking the pass, unless it is Kev as he has the belief to play it

But i also agree he needs to grab the game by the neck and also be looking to open up passing lanes to Haaland - something his predecessor the great David Silva was the master at

We all see Foden as a world class talent and want him to be one of the best, and therefore we're all very passionate about his performances. His role in the Newcastle win felt like a coming of age. He was sensational that day, against what is a very robust and physical midfield.

He's not done enough in the Wolves or Arsenal games for me. I want to see him more involved. Drop deep and pass and move, then go wide and try and get on the ball. Get yourself involved in the game as much as possible, and that doesn't always need you to keep moving. Sometimes you can get space by standing still and letting others move around you. When he does get the ball he's one of the best at making things happen on the half turn, but he's too easily marked out of games at the moment. I'd stick him down with a David Silva dvd and get him to study how to do it, because he's got it in him!
