Middle East Conflict

I would be having a lot more fun with that function than that if I was you!
Ha, that could be a thread in its own right. Endless possibilities there. If it wasn’t such a bleak, depressing situation then changing “Israel” to “Palestine”, and vice versa, in this thread alone would probably produce some interesting results.

There is actually a word censor built into the forum software, which is why you see some forums show words like “cnut” and “fecking” instead of the actual word. Have considered employing it on “Isreal” for my own sanity.
Surely that’s some kind of fantasy I can hardly believe isreal.

I guess the US had to address the biggest fear, it has be talked about in right wing circles both in Israel and the US

Blinken rejects proposal to relocate Gaza residents to nearby Sinai Peninsula

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken rejected proposals to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to the Sinai Peninsula en masse.

"I’ve heard directly from Palestinian Authority President Abbas and from virtually every other leader that I’ve talked to in the region, that that idea is a nonstarter, and so we do not support it," he told Al Arabiya.

"We believe that people should be able to stay in Gaza, their home. But we also want to make sure that they’re out of harm’s way and that they’re getting the assistance they need," Blinken

As a result of the unpublished "Shylock" cartoon it would appear than Steve Bell has effectively had his contact paid up by the Guardian.
They have told him no more of his cartoons will be published and his contract will not be extended beyond March 2024.
Sad but surely all he had to do was apologise, saying it wasn't intentional?
Sad as his cartoons were often brilliant.

Hezbollah have modern anti tank weapons we’ve seen in Ukraine, they have tanks, APCs, artillery - even proper high altitude long range UAV drones analogous to predators (but presumably not as good).
If they're the russian (iranian) type stuff, then up against Israel/US they'll get obliterated by just the air power.

hezbollah don't exactly have a "no fly zone" above Lebanon, and I doubt there'd be much help air wise from elsewhere.

There is a widespread discernible (and somewhat understandable) absence of proportionality atm.

A healthy democracy needs people like Bell, who speak to power, and sometimes they will inevitably cross the line. The problem is, that we no longer are a healthy democracy.

Well, that’s pretty clear.

There is no "Shylock" cartoon. Lyndon Johnson had a gall bladder operation and showed off the scar. Cartoonist David Levine turned it into a prophetic image of Vietnam. Steve Bell explicitly referenced it in his cartoon of Netanyahu with Gaza (but yet to be operated on). The Jewish Chronicle doesn't sound exactly outraged (and have published Bell's cartoon!). https://www.thejc.com/news/news/pol...ng-antisemitic-cartoon-66Atn6sy96hsWfUUzXeNTI

Hence why I put it in quotes. I sort of agree with you, but I can see how it could be misinterpreted. Couldn't he have just apologised?
Big loss.

Neither did the Israeli women and children - that's the tradgedy of war, innocents on both sides bear the brunt.
So when you call it a tragedy of war are you saying that actions from both sides are legitimate or are you saying one is terrorism and the other isn’t or are both actions terrorism?

I’m confused.

Hammas will be history

I suspect that Israel my come to regret house to house fighting........ the use of armour is limited in an urban environment and with Hamas like as not in tunnels they will hardly be affected by bombardment and unless the IDF know where the tunnels are they will be hard to root out. Finally whilst they may have called up 300k reservists I can't help but wonder as to the resolve of a 35 year old corner shop owner or a 40 year old lecturer if they come under heavy fire. Bad times are coming.

I reckon he had too, forced relocation sounds very much like previous horrors.

Why do people never learn.

Why didn't you post the inoffensive cartoon that the Guardian didn't want to publish??? Let people see for themselves.

Didn't you read the link? It's in there, published by the Jewish Chronicle.
