It’s usually passed on through family, certainly was when I was young.
Yep, was with me. Technically I probably should be a Bolton supporter, as they were the closest top flight team to me growing up, but when The King moved from Bury (closest league club) to City it was just written in the stars as my father partly changed allegiance although still followed both teams.
 
And thats what its all about..
You should always support your local club as a birthright... supporting or adopting a team from another town or city that can never really be your own is madness.

My Dad came from Co Durham and so was a Sunderland fan. After the war he didn't want to go back to the NE and luckily was offered a job in Hulme. He lodged on Stretford Rd and always turned towards Moss Side when he went to footie. I return the deed by having the Black Cats as my second team. Good old Dad!
