Unfortunately a small percentage try to not pay and we all suffer because of them.

I’m sure they must factor this into their reckoning. Shall we pay 4 cashiers or risk a bit of stock being taken? Most self checkout places are fitted with cameras as well. The shoplifter is getting more brazen nowadays and by passing the tills altogether

Shops should have both so people have the option.

Personally I hate manned checkouts and find the idle chit chat really awkward / annoying.

I really like the ‘scan as you go’ thing they have in the big Sainsbury’s near us. Works great.

I’m somewhere between the two. I like friendly and helpful service but I don’t want to know their life story.

If I feel I’m an inconvenience to the employee then I don’t tend to go back.

Likewise, I also prefer those automated checkouts over the human ones.
Being in the digital business myself, I've utilized tools like slack sms to streamline communication and enhance efficiency. Technology should be our friend not something to be afraid of.

Four pubs near me are cash only. The Chinese chip shop is too. As everything goes on my debit card, it’s becoming irksome to go to an ATM first. I’ve got to walk past several of these businesses to get to one before walking back.

same around where i live, cash only takeaways are rising up to the charges sometimes around 10% of the trasaction,you cant blame them either

They’ll have their own cashing up expense and banking too. If the gaffer is happy to do it themselves then it’s just their time.
