Yeah but as we saw over the parties there was a reluctance in the Met to investigate and prosecute those in power. We need to break the leverage the Tories have on the Police by voting them down to an insignificant rump

It depends on the circumstances.

Telling your missus that you're going to the Blue Bell when you're actually going to the Coach and Horses is not illegal.

In many commercial circumstances, not least in the procurement of contracts, lying is potentially illegal. You really need the full facts, and to be a commercial lawyer, to be sure.

What puzzles me about this is that it has been public knowledge for months, but seems to have risen in prominence greatly in the past few days.

Don't know for certain, but the govt are suing to get 120m back from them - maybe they wanted to get their side out before that happens.

Because they've come out and admitted lying. I think they admitted a few weeks ago, via lawyers, but they've gone into full fightback mode.

I assume the investigations going on behind the scenes had reached a point where they realised it wasn't going away, and they've decided to admit to lying to the media, but go into a combative mode with the Government in the hope that: either the snakes all devour one another and they become a sideshow in a bigger scandal; or they can claim they're simply being scapegoated by more powerful people; or the other Tories try to close ranks around it to save their own skins, and they get let off.

I had been raising it on social media discussions on various outlets, but was thinking that it (& a LOT of others) had been brushed under the carpet and today it seems to be a "hot topic"
