New Champions League format

All these games , be no time for the players to rest .
uefa & fifa need to find their commonsense & think of the players health & fitness before being greedy b-stards .
Think its time a breakaway league was formed , maybe with other teams from foreign leagues ?
Only kidding lol !

There's a serious point to that. If you're going to be flogged to death, well, why not just pocket all the cash while you're about it?
The ESL was an abomination, but this is pretty shit. Note that the supplement of matches will obviously have a detrimental effect on domestic leagues and domestic cup tournaments. So all the clubs that were enraged and who have little realistic chance of qualifying for the CL, they should stay enraged. Because domestic tournaments are still being disrespected.
As for Ilkay, well, I just like that guy more and more.

If only the officials of UEFA and other spineless football organisations had the ethics and morals of Ilkay

It's a bit of a vicious circle. It's too many games if you are a successful club likely to go into the final stages but just enough games if you are a club who is likely to go out early.

None of these changes would be clamoured for, not wage caps, not FFP, not expanded CLs, not fan ownership (God forbid), nothing if the huge amount of money available was more evenly distributed. So the teams in European competition would be playing for the glory, slightly more money (on a sliding scale) themselves and the benefit of the whole of English football so the country could support them in their endeavours.

Since none of that is going to happen, we're going to have changes every couple of years, none of which will benefit the game as a whole.

A break away European competition would be ideal right now if it was fair for all teams involved. UEFA throwing more money at the clubs competing in their competitions is only going to result in more wages for the players and higher transfer fees being paid. Then the vicious cycle starts and ticket prices go up meaning loyal fans stop going. UEFA have the power to change football by implementing legitimate financial restrictions that make the game fairer. I’m leaving in a dream world though as that will never happen.

There's something going on behind the scenes, gundogan, pep and klopp have all brought this up in the last couple of days, if this new format is allowed then the league cup and fa Cup will suffer, teams will just play weakened teams in

I hope so. Honestly, even the league will suffer, unless you've got an extraordinary squad.
And all these stupid international friendlies and pointless FIFA competitions. Personally, I don't watch so much as one minute of them.

Top footballers need far less games, not more.

The amount of football needs addressing and quickly, we will have serious player burnout, yet again this summer , the top players will not be getting any time off. Crazy situation especially after this contracted season.

This new format was dreamt up to counter fears of the breakaway. Now thats blown up and UEFA strengthened there is no reason why they might not be more open to talks on this new format, the managers and players probably feel they are in a stronger position within the game too after the last week. The blood letting could have its benefits yet.

There would be plenty of space in the calendar if international friendlies were scrapped and the volume of qualifiers drastically reduced to the levels they used to be at. We have four international breaks and no winter break. This is madness. International football was much stronger 50 years ago when there were less games. The standard of international football has plummeted while club football has improved at the highest level.

So greed and all the rest to one side...

As a fan, there's already too much football. I can watch football from around the world almost every day of the week, and there's games I don't watch as my girlfriend isn't going to tolerate me sticking any more on outside of City stuff. I can watch City twice a week, the premier league 3 or 4 times a weekend + my SC. I don't keep up with TV shows I'd like to see or other sports I enjoy, and football already encroaches into other hobbies or social events or leisure. It's just football as content.
