Grealish house raid

My excuse is that I happen to have a collection of medieval weapons. I can easily prove my deep interest in the Middle Ages. The sword is blunt as it was designed for use in reenactment but it ain't half heavy when used as a club. It just so happens that I was polishing it and left it next to the bed.

Always thought if the object you used to defend your self was something you would legitimately have to hand ie a hammer if you were doing DIY, carpet knife if putting a new rug down you would have a reasonable defence wheras if you have a baseball bat next to the bed with no reason to be there it would be considered a trap. Same thing with beware of the dog signs by putting up a sign you accept you knew the risk
Your Honour,
I was contemplating having a round of golf the next morning, and to remind me when I woke up, I had the seven iron beside my bed.

No that’s not the case
You can use reasonable force the thing you’re talking about is having an offensive weapon in. A public place
You need a reasonable excuse I:E tools of the trade etc etc

If I have to protect my family from someone attacking them the last thing on my mind would be "Is this legal?".

What would it cost typically to set-up and run an operational security solution for a place like that - eg 24*7 comprehensive CCTV, a small team of close protection live-in professionals, manage the security dogs etc? £500k a year?

Is nocturnal sword polishing an activity one indulges in frequently sir?

Exactly you protect them then worry about the legality afterwards however
what I’m trying to say is you can use force
There is loads of legislation and case law that’s applicable and it’s on your side
However don’t shoot someone in the back who’s running away like the farmer did a few years back
You could be a little fucked then

It was probably a surprise that 10 people were there. The gang had a very good idea where the valuables were though.

To be fair, if I'd been a guest in the house, I would recommend family members to help the robbers find the valuables quickly.

Life is more important than things.

Something ironic about the tabs posting photos of the house on an article about a break in. No wonder these fuckers know where to target.
I suspect the size of the property is something of a give away to be honest.
Besides it can happen to anyone. My old gaff in Timperley was a 3 bed semi, didn't stop the fuckers. Thankfully wasn't home at the time.
Leaves you feeling shit, hope his family get over it

Same here.
Some little twat breaks into my house they'll have a piece of handrail with nails sticking out of it around his head.
Then sadly rather than being a hero the law would have you down as the bad guy, and probably spend more time and money on nailing you rather than the true culprit.
These clowns have well and truly fooked the country up.
