North Stand Construction Discussion

I thought the council just get a flat fee now with nothing extra regardless?

Everything he said was incorrect.

City pay a set amount per year ! It's a better deal for MCC and suits City to build it into their budgets !

I also thought it was £3m for the lease and an extra £1m per season(I forget the term used) so City can keep all revenues for none football events at the stadium. Whether or not the new expansion plans will mean the existing agreement will be amended again, I don't know.

Re: - Request for Information - Commercial terms of Etihad Stadium rental by
Manchester City - reference number SOL/A33E8J

The following table details the basic rent paid by MCFC for the most recent
financial year, Apr 14 – Mar 15.

2014/15
Rental Income: 3,143,846
Naming Rights: 842,102
Champions League: 338,293
Champions League:112,764
Total charge Apr 14 - Mar 15: 4,437,004

There are variable payments made dependent on the clubs participation
and performance in European Competition. Additional rental income associated
with the clubs participation in the Champions League for the 2014/15 financial
year is detailed in the above table.

The stadium build was funded by Sport England and given to MCC however any proceeds for a sale would likely to have to go in full or part to Sport England

My mistake, I had misremembered it slightly, what I've read(probably here on this forum) is £3m per year for the lease and a further £1m for control of the naming rights. The figures you put there don't seem far away at all. Except, maybe the Champions League/UEFA competition income, is an extra that has been overlooked?

As for none City football events, City apparently reimbursed the city of Manchester council to the tune of £33m(their construction costs contribution). This was satisfied via a combination of £6m cash and the transfer of assets from Maine Road, valued at £27m, in exchange for a 'managing lease'.

As City does not own the stadium who pays for a new roof if it needs one?
City are de facto owners with a 250 year lease which IIRC is shown as an asset in our accounts (maybe wrong or partial wrong about that) We have exclusive rights and are responsible for the maintenance, If the rags wanted to borrow it then we would have the final say (no)
"The lease of the Etihad Stadium to Manchester City Football Club enables the club to utilise all space in the stadium for a range of commercial and community uses.

A number of clubs are creating proper home ends. Southampton are moving the away fans and putting safe standing into one large area. I’m hoping the club are going to do the same with the north stand.

Spurs, Everton, villa and so many other clubs either have a home end or are creating them.
Hasn't Villa abandoned their plans? Spurs & Everton of course have had to build brand new stadiums. We are the only club that's expanding an existing stadium to create a "home end" so far. Southampton are just relocating fans and putting safe standing into a stadium that only holds 32,000, it's hardly comparable.

Yep Villa have saying that 40 odd thousand is enough

Apparently their plans including knocking down the complete stand and their CEO didn't want to reduce the capacity and loose revenue for 2 seasons ! Think UEFA my have something to say to him as they were chosen as a ground for Euro 2028 on the basis of having a 48k capacity by then !

Villa have a 30,000 waitlist for Season Tickets and it shows what a short-term view their owners have. The place is a dump and that could have been the start of a rebuild to bring it into the 21st Century, along with fanzones for a better matchday experience.

Hopefully they lose the right to stage matches for 2028 and never get picked again to host any game of relevance.

In some aspects those examples are comparable though. Southampton are creating a home end with safe standing in place and no away fans - is that not what we are attempting to do/ large numbers of fans want?

Obviously expanding a stadium or building a new stand is different, but there’s still similarities, especially with the core idea of having a home end.

Scouser, Mister Drone UK, did his first video on our stadium but I’ll happily not be watching another. He begins by mocking our ‘best team in the land and all the world’ banner and is liking ‘Emptyhad’ posts in the comments.

These are the words the execs at City need to look at

"We think this will greatly improve the atmosphere, and really help the team"

Small focus groups will also be organized by the club - anyone wishing to join those discussions will need to register their interest in advance.

Phil Parsons, CEO of Saints, said: “Our fans are the lifeblood of the club, and we want to ensure the best possible atmosphere for years to come, so we’re excited to be making these important upgrades to St Mary’s.

“We’ve been listening to fan feedback, consulting with our Fan Advisory Board and we know moving the away end to create a full home end in the Northam is something a lot of our fans have been wanting for a long time.

“A lot of work has already taken place behind the scenes to get us to this stage and I would encourage all fans to complete the survey or take part in a focus group if they can to share their views with us.”

Mike Sadler, Fan Advisory Board co-chair, added: “For many years, Saints fans have said that having the Northam end split between home and away fans has reduced the atmosphere and helped away teams.

"The Fan Advisory Board represents fans, and support the club in their decision to create the full Northam end.

“We think this will greatly improve the atmosphere, and really help the team.

"We are delighted that this is now going to happen and look forward to helping the club to progress this exciting project together with our fan base.”

The club statement adds: "Pending the outcome of the consultation period, we’re aiming to start work later this year.

"We're considering relocating away fans to the current family stand area. We’ll make sure a family-friendly environment is maintained throughout the changes.

"Specific areas will be designated for families and young fans."
