Dennis Tueart - 50 Years A Blue

I know you won’t want to hear this, but that 1973 Cup final is probably my favourite non-City game. Second division Sunderland up against Revie's dirty Leeds at the height of their power.

I still clearly remember Ian Porterfield scoring, me jumping up, and shouting, "Yes!" and my Mum cautioning me that "There’s still a long way to go".

A brilliant day.
Loved that final !! Bob running on the pitch at the end !!

Including a superb double save from Montgomery.

Indeed they were. And then we added Big Joe to the mix. Loved that whole period. What a side they were.
They were excellent and very entertaining. They should have won more. Maybe they would have done if Skip had been left in charge.
It took us over 40 years but we got our revenge on the dippers pipping us by a point to the league.

It’s funny because like you I loved watching that team but we were pipped in 76-77 in part because of the daft oh vs dippers but also because there were so many 0-0 draws at home, I can remember at least 3 or 4.

Met him on a Junior Blues tour, I stayed behind to talk to him while the guided party went elsewhere.

In the days before mobiles I held the LC with him in the boardroom.

Gutted isn't the word when he left us, IIRC his last game was a third replay at the swamp v Luton also in the LC, which I watched from the Stretford End.
Yep was there with my mate.

Dennis Tueart is probably still my favourite all time City player, even to this very day, and I can still recall his performances for Sunderland against us just before City decided to buy him ..... he was a fantastic signing for this club, and, for me, he's been a part of our 'fabric' for past 50 years , even though he had a few short stints with other clubs along the way.

He's 75 years old now, and i hope he's around for many more years to come ....

Dave Watson was my absolute favourite when I first started watching City, but it was quite a close-run thing between him and Dennis. He was such an exciting player and you felt something good might happen for us whenever he got involved in the game.

In my opinion, he was one of the best players around in the top flight in his first spell at Maine Road. Obviously the FOCs oin here who remember that period will all love him, but I think he's forgotten by a lot of other teams' fans. Deserves to be remembered as a great of that era much more than he is.
