Aston Villa (H) | PL | Post-match Thread

I had the misfortune of waiting for the train outside Wembley with them giving it large. They were insanely over the top.

I had to turn my headphones up and just smiled at them giving it the big’un.

I’m convinced I got Covid off them though!
Be grateful, we won the cup and covid was all they took home.

Was only looking at Wikipedia before the game yesterday to find the last time we scored more than 3 goals in a league game this season.

The 4-4 vs Chelsea. The last time we scored more than 3 goals and won was the 6-1 against Bournemouth. A good time to get our shooting boots back.

Jack will always be a Villa fan but he left to better himself professionally. I'm not sure how we'd react in a similar situation but I liked the way he went over to the remaining Villa fans at the end. Pretty sure Jack will be back at Villa Park as a fan when his playing days are over.

We normally react fine. SWP was the last big player I remember leaving that we desperately wanted to stay. Of course we needed the money but I remember being at Macclesfield away in a pre season friendly when the news came through. Gutted was an understatement. The only players given stick on a return these days are those that disrespect the club once they leave, like Millner and Cancello.

Plenty of plaudits for the attack last night, and rightly so, but the defence also deserved credit. Got ripped apart on the break, for sure, but that was often a genuine back three, with each of them also barrelling forward with the ball at some point.

I guess you didn't watch the game...

Either that or you must be a Villa fan
Grealish was very good..he definitely wasn't poor
Grealish holds up the ball and brings others into play, but he rarely plays a defence splitting pass, shoots, or gets an assist. Using those criteria alone I can see why some think he had a poor game. And he hardly ever loses the ball which is an asset when the manager rates possession as the most important aspect of the game.

Did anyone get a good view of what happened at the front of the north stand just after Villa scored?
From my seat it looked like three or four kids celebrated the goal and a couple of adults were asked to leave by a steward a minute or so later. It looked like the kids were allowed to remain.

Weakened Villa team but a great performance.

Villa fans are hated in the Midlands, can see why.Spent most of the game slagging our fanbase whilst singing VTID, Vilka love you more than you will know etc etc and other City invented songs. Then slag us off(rightly imo)for a half empty stadium on 85 mins forgetting that loads of theres were leaving.
Utter gobshites, mouthy is putting it mildly, can't stand them.

It is possible to think that Haaland unbalances the team and inhibits them from playing Pep‘s style to its best advantage. Personally, I think Haaland needs to learn a lot more still. On form he is a peerless goal taker but he needs more.
Sorry but no City fan was saying this when we were winning the treble. He's scored 29 goals this season and missed a good chunk of the season injured . He is never going to be a Harry Kane like striker he's an out and out goalscorer.

Villa fans have short memories Villa Park was half empty for most seasons not so long ago

Fans sing and try to take the piss out of other fans, this is not new. Don't tell anyone but city fans do it too. Quite often what fans sing is often factually incorrect.

Can't believe after a great win people people comment and actually fall for this shit.

Thought we were excellent tonight and great match. Fair dos to Villa they came to play. What a difference without playing to Haaland, how many more chances did we create. Honestly believe we play better without relying on the final pass to Haaland. It makes us play more football and the build up is so much better. Foden obviously devastating playing central OMG.

I don't think Haaland not being in was a big difference

The players and Pep said themselves they were under more instructions to get more players into the box quickly, as we saw with Rodri's goal. We can do that with Haaland on the pitch too.

Considering he's got 29 goals this season and two months out, then it shows we clearly create plenty when he's on the pitch too. We won a treble with him playing nearly every game, who was complaining then?

We just need to quicken our attacking play more like we did last night and not leave one player isolated in the box. Get more players into the box and defenders have more to worry about than just one man.

Besides, if we're being honest, it's easier to look more fluid vs a weakened Villa than an Arsenal that turned up with a flat back 8.
