England Squad - Euro 2024

I would take him because I think the control he brings is important, particularly in tournament football where you need to have different options. No one else can do what he does.

Unfortunately everyone knows that except waistcoat.

He's as thick a mince when it comes to tactics and is more likely to bring Grealish on 2 minutes into injury time as we're heading out and needing a goal instead of when we need to control a game.

No Grealish would just be a mad decision to be honest. He’s very experienced now and no one can bring control to the left side like he can, which would be invaluable against the stronger teams. Still looks a good squad but typical Southgate, what a tit he is.

Makes sense imo. All this excited talk of Rice, Bellingham and Foden starting in midfield is exactly why England couldn't win a major tournament with Gerrard and Lampard in midfield. Rice is a box-to-box, Bellingham is a false nine, Foden sort of plays in the channels. You can't have them all playing when there's nobody there stitching it together. Arteta understands that to get the best out of Rice you need someone like Jorginho or Partey there as a workhorse. France understood it in 98 when they had Deschamps and Petit carrying the load for Zidane. Ordinarily it would have been Phillips but considering he's a broken man now I was half expecting it to be Henderson. Jones might fit the bill. Could also do worse than having Conor Gallagher or Alexander-Arnold there as well.

Pickford
Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw
Gallagher/TAA, Rice
Saka/Palmer, Bellingham, Foden
Kane

Think there's a lot going for that team.
Maguire and Shaw are useless.

Fucking stupid, history shows the international tournament winners always have a strong contingent of national champions in the squad

But no, Waistcoat will pick his usual underperforming regulars and a load of average unproven midtable youngsters just to prove a point

Can’t wait for the wanker to fuck off

So, this generational talented squad people bang about, have you seen the likely squad ?

I'd be surprised if Southgate's squad could beat an England B squad with a decent manager and a couple of weeks to prepare.

It'd probably be a hard fought 0-0 though.

Not confirmed but dead certs:

Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Trippier, Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Gallagher, Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Palmer, Kane, Watkins

Confirmed:

D. Henderson, Trafford, Quansah, Guehi, Branthwaite, Colwill, Shaw, Wharton, Jones, Mainoo, Eze, Maddison, Bowen, Toney

28 so far.

No Chilwell, Sterling or Henderson.

If it is 30, I reckon it's Gordon and a 4th keeper (either Ramsdale or Pope). Gomez, Grealish and Rashford might sneak in if it's more than 30.

The rest of the squad is a bit 'meh'
It’s decent, but not great in parts. To win, we’d have to stumble on a perfect balance that we haven’t found yet.

Bellingham is a strange player to knit into the side. He’s not a 6, he’s not really an 8 either. Madrid used him more as a false 9. England can’t do that as we have Kane, unless Southgate goes full Mike Bassett and goes 4-4-effing-2.
