The GMP statement mentions ‘there was a clear risk of their firearms being taken from the officers ’…undoubtedly more will become apparent but I think there was a real risk of this escalating even further.

Back in the day during a public order incident a colleague dropped his baton and a member of the public picked it up and started threatening us..that was scary enough and that was just a stick, not a firearm.
