Paris 2024 Olympics Thread - 11th August (pg 430)

What the fuck’s this shit?

‘Cos like basketball is so low scoring, we better invent a sport where’s there’s more action around the basket and play on a tiny court?

6.24 by him, he's set it like 10 times now.

Knows what he's doing, you get money every time you break the record plus he has contract incentives, so just pushes it 1cm each time.
There's only really pole vault and high jump you can take this approach, and why wouldn't you?

Regardless of incentives, if 6.24 is the world record, would anyone try and go for 6.30? You just wouldn't. Just make sure you go for higher than anyone has ever achieved, that's more than enough.

The guy is incredible.

Is there an English ref on var? Handball review taken 5 mins. 6 mins and no penalty - if those arms were in a natural position…,

Buzzing for Keely, but Du Plantis doing 6.25 on his third attempt gave me absolute goosebumps. The great thing about the pole vault in every Olympics, I think, is that it's the last thing happening in the stadium that evening. So you have the whole stadium on your side. If anything, I think that was distracting Du Plantis a little bit too much.
Pity that Keely roots for the dark side. Would have been perfect if she'd been a lifelong blue. Ah well, she'll see the light, maybe.

I think this is a legitimate penalty, you know.
Not given because of a ghost push on the defender.

Quite a dubious decision that seemed more geared to avoid the appearance of favouritism to France than anything.

It goes to added time!
