Manchester’s Changing Skyline

One Victoria.

Our team at One Victoria in Manchester continues to make impressive strides in bringing this landmark project to fruition for our client, One Heritage Group PLC.

Significant progress has been made on both Blocks A and B. The completion of the substation at Block A marks a crucial milestone. Internal first fix M&E has reached level 4 on both blocks, including essential systems such as rainwater downpipes, soil vent pipes, and ducting.

Frames and glazing for both Blocks are complete, along with SFS steel and cement board installations. Mast climbers have been installed on both Blocks, aiding in the near-completion of cement board and EDPM waterproofing across all elevations. We are now ready to begin installing slip bricks on both Blocks, enhancing the exterior's aesthetic appeal and durability.

Like a lot of the new buildings going up, they're very box-y in appearance. Soulless, no character to them. I'm not impressed by them.

And yes; I have no doubt that big money is being spent on them.

At least the different developments and apartments are uniform and brick all the way along Ordsall Lane. Nice continuity and pleasent. Well, I think so.

Trident Riders - SSC-MCR, July crane count, last post.

Thats Simpson Haugh for you. One design fits all. It's actually a bit cheaper to use the same design with tweaks.

London Road Fire Station redevelopment.

Our current progress at London Road Fire Station in Manchester. Our skilled operatives have completed the Bauder Flat Roofs Bakor hot melt roofing system which included paving and ballast, as well as waterproofing around the plant screen steelwork posts.

To the walls, we have now completed the voestalpine Metsec plc SFS system and Weatherkem sheathing board, moving onto the rainscreen sub-grid framing. Next up will be the ROCKWOOL UK Rainscreen Duo-slab insulation and PFC Corofil cavity fire barriers. Once all the supporting works are completed we'll be installing a Proteus Engineered Façade Technology ® HR Rainscreen panel with a bespoke KME Brass external finish.

Site visit 2 this week. Our extension to Manchester college, which we completed a couple of years ago. Envelope rapidly coming together, impressive work by Precision Facades. The atrium looking good, with the tower crane now removed.

Very nice brickwork detail on Island - 10 fl - City Centre JRB.

Yes. It’s turned out really well hasn’t it.

That’s why I’m really looking forward to seeing House of Social, First Street, when that’s completed. The exterior is brick.

Thankfully more and more property developer are using brick again, even though it’s more expensive and time consuming.

It's a privilege to be part of this large project in Manchester city centre.

Chroda site labourers and cleaning teams are hard at work in Blocks A and B, tackling all the builders cleans and sparkle cleans. We're ensuring all areas are spotless and ready for students to move in early September.

I looked at the newly applied advertising hoardings around House of Social when I walked past en route to the Aquatics Centre last Friday morning.
Looks like it's going to have an interesting food and drink offer, and although I appreciate there's a few similar places in town like Society and Freight Island, the more the merrier with this sort of food hall in my opinion.

Totally.

Greengate is getting new bars and restaurants in the railway arches.

The arches are currently fenced off and are being cleared out.

A series of arches in the Greengate Blackfriars area of Salford are the subject of a potential £4m revival project.

Specialist small business developers The Arch Company hope to create space for retail, offices and general restauration.

Such artisan businesses could include bakeries, bespoke wood and glasswork stores as well as a bike repair shop.

The site on Norton Street features a viaduct made up of 10 arches below railway line between the Salford Central and Manchester Victoria train stations.

The renovation will also see Norton Street carpark turned into a 72sqm outdoor seating area.

Work to demolish the existing Alberton House is underway almost two years after the developer secured planning permission to build an 18-storey wellness-led workspace in its place.

Bruntwood SciTech has appointed contractor PP O’Connor to carry out the complex task of knocking down the 12-storey Alberton House, which is located next to the River Irwell within Manchester’s St Mary’s Parsonage regeneration zone.

The contractor is carrying out the internal strip-out work to level the site by next spring.

EPR’s designs for the redevelopment of Alberton House create a stunning destination building, pioneering sustainable workspaces for a new generation.

Dead pigeons, the detritus of illegal raves, and some eerie artwork. That is what greeted Place North West on a recent tour (includes pictures) around a derelict Manchester mill at the centre of a planning saga.

Here are some highlights from last week’s tour of St Michael's Manchester. The sheer scale of the excavation is astounding as preparations continue for a new 42-storey tower. We even walked through the rebar for the 3m thick basement slab!
