Gundo is soon to be 34 and at the time, the club was struggling to justify offering him a 2nd year on the deal he wanted. That 2nd year is the year we are in right now. The year the club was tentative to commit to. Don’t see the club paying a fee plus wages for a near 34 year old that they were unsure on offering a 2-year deal 18 months ago.
Agreed, a loan would be a better option at this moment in time, then at the end he would be a free agent, we could offer him a rolling one year contract with the offer of a coaching roll.

If we would bring Gundo back I hope it's not at the expense of what I think should be our number one priority, someone that can cover Rodri. But would happily sell Nunes and bring Gundo in instead even if its a short term move.

We saw yesterday that we can play and win without Rodri, so if you add someone as talented as Gundo into the Rodri, Kovacic rotation, i think we'd be fine this season.

yes and this was the best.

1021: Not strictly related to the transfer of players, but there are strong reports suggesting that there has been a takeover at Man City, with the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment splashing the cash. No more Shinawatra, it seems.

0005: TRANSFER CONFIRMED AND MY GOD IT'S A CRACKER
Robinho,
the 24-year-old Brazilian, has left Real Madrid and signed for Manchester City. That is officially the biggest deadline day deal in history. Probably.
What a day and night that was. I was on holiday in Bridlington at the time with family and I couldn't stop looking at my phone all day much to the dismay of my missus. Started with the takeover, then the Berbatoss farce, then Robinho bang on midnight

Kova showed last season, and Gundo showed several seasons, that neither of them handle that DM role in our system particularly well (in my opinion). We won the league without any real Rodri cover more than once so we can probably handle it another year, but for me someone that can cover Rodri should be a higher priority than another CM when we already have KDB/Foden/Bernardo/Kovacic/Nunes as options for those two spots. I also think that going back to former players almost never works. We need to move forward, not backwards. With that said, I certainly wouldn't be upset to see Gundo in our shirt again. Just my opinion.

That may well be true but the reasons this would make sense as a stop gap signing far outweigh the reasons it doesn’t.
I’d be amazed if we weren’t having serious discussions with him and his team in regards to a potential move.
I think it's wishful thinking unfortunately.
