The Conservative Party

The Party of aspiration ............. if you can pay for it

I'm not surprised Jenrick is doing well. His willingness to act unlawfully * to help a Tory donor save £40m on a planning application suggests he knows which side donors like their bread buttered.

* He only realised it was unlawful when the local council took the decision to judicial review.

Who would have thought it?

Corruption review finds 'red flags' in more than 130 Covid contracts

An anti-corruption charity says it has identified significant concerns in contracts worth over £15.3bn awarded by the Conservative government during the Covid pandemic, equivalent to one in every £3 spent.

Transparency International UK found 135 “high-risk” contracts with at least three red flags - warning signs of a risk of corruption.

Story

Mel Stride, eh, loses his stride and falls at the second fence. The four other contenders jump clear and race onwards to the next one. Gripping stuff. Think it made eighth story on the national news…

since 2014 Jenrick has been a member of a govt that promised to build new prisons ( alongside 40 new hospitals) and not one was started and was in a Cabinet where between Oct 23 and June 24 released 10,083 prisoners early under Sunak. He is a twunt of the highest order

This prick has a tungsten neck - what a fucking grifter

You have to admire the neck on them. I'm not a Starmer fan and am concerned about the current govt in many ways, but for the Tories to try and blame the state of anything on labour after a few weeks in power is laughable.

If you look at the runners then the reason for that is clear - the winner would barely get into your local point to point race never mind a group 1 race. Yeah Labour are doing stuff that invites critique but they have nearly 5 years left to present a record of good if they do the right thing. If you look who is left in the Tory race for leader in 5 years time at a GE whoever wins will look like a manager bottom of Div 2 hoping to avoid the non-league when they would be hoping for promotion into the PL

It’s an intriguing race, though maybe not for the most obvious reasons. Cleverly’s needle didn’t move in round two, nor did Stride’s, with Jenrick picking up 5, Badenoch 6, and Tugendhat 4, so Patel’s support (14) and another 1 split across three candidates. After what happened in 2022 when the party members were presented with either Sunak (137 MP votes) or Truss (113 MP votes), it’s going to be fascinating to see which two go forward this time.
