Paramount+ has the Como replay, so got to watch Max. Came on at HT for an Austrian MF who got a YC in the 11th minute. Very active and involved until Sergi Roberto came on at 69m to play near him in MF - kinda diluted Max' impact. Only watched the 2nd half, but Como was the better team and deserved a road W - they came from behind for the 1-1 draw. Lotsa familiar names in this match - Pepe Reina, Roberto, Fabregas, Lapadula, Nico Paz, Belotti, Yerry Mina - it was actually a decent watch, beyond expectations. Looking forward to following Como like Las Palmas last season - pretty sure Max will play regularly, possibly the best player on the pitch during the 2nd half. Biggest take-away is that NOT ONCE did I think, "There's that lack of athleticism hindering his prospects." Nothing about his actions and movements stood out negatively. Nothing but positive touches and vision. The Como goal came off a corner that was won off an exquisite Max diagonal outlet pass - hit like a hooded 7 iron with bite on it. I'm a Max-doubter but go Max, booyah.

Watched Udinese 1-0 Como. Max went the full 90 [+10] ... nothing special the first hour ... just steady Max in a double pivot. Then at 60m Fiberglass put in Roberto, Paz and a winger which gave Max something to work with chasing the equalizer. Max was very involved from that point on, but only misery awaited. A corner caromed to Max in the goal mouth at 92m which he shinned wide. Then Como's favorite son Cutrone missed a pen at 95m to put a bow on the L. Late on, the broadcast listed Max among the POTM candidates for which viewers could vote. Max might get us a profit some day is my vote.

I think he's definitely going to make us some money or he can come into the squad should Kovacic or Gundogan move on next summer.

I think we really rate this kid and he's not going anywhere except to learn the DM position.. which isn't easy to learn on the bench by watching.

Can he be recalled from loan, anywhere near good enough, would be better emergency option than Kalvin Phillips?

If we are recalling a player it should be Callum Doyle and pushing gvardiol into the 6. Not going to happen as I assume it would massively screw over Norwich, but Doyle would hit the ground running at left back more so than perrone in the 6. Gvardiol is already playing an advanced role for us and should have some baseline at 6 even if it would require some patience to get it to work.

I thought players could only be recalled from loans if there was a specific clause stipulating such in the contract and both clubs had agreed to it.
