The Labour Government

What these stupid media don't take into account is the fact that his son will now probably have to put up with bullying and 'teasing' about having gone to another house during the election.
Whatever you think of his father putting the child under pressure is not on. Teenagers are vulnerable at the best of times as we keep reading and hearing so lay off the children. JMHO

Extrapolate that out, adding VAT to private school fees, kids that end up in state school getting bullied and teased or being denied the freedom of choice that Starmer’s kid was gifted.

Private school kids won’t get any sympathy, so I put it to the defence why should Starmer’s?

What was more damaging for him though? That he broke the law or that he was having a birthday party whilst folk couldn’t visit those dying in hospitals or care homes or attend their funerals.

People tend to react to emotions with politics (ie the optics) not the substance. If you think the headlines from the WFA is bad now, you wait for the first person to die yet the substance of the policy is unchanged.
Not accepting gifts.

People are losing their minds over declared donations.

Starmer is just letting it run its course and it’ll die a death as they’re non-stories, however much anyone wants them to be anything else.

In this instance because private school kids are a group and not singled out one by one. Starmer's son is singled out. Surely you can see the difference?

Starmer isn’t letting it run its course he’s feeding the bloody story. He’s not good at politics.

party gate during lockdown was wrong, illegal and f*ckin disgusting!

Kier Starmer getting a free pair of glasses and a ticket to Taylor Swift doesn't even compare.
I obviously wasn't clear my bad, not comparing the "offences" just that once the media get hold of something you need to deal with it.

You missed the long list they’ve already achieved in a couple months then ?
removing WFA for pensioners
causing panic amongst small investors concerned over the upcoming budget impact on ISA's and pensions in particular, and consumer confidence in general
examining bank accounts of people on disability benefits, because obviously every fucking one of them is scamming

You can see why the Tories just didn’t declare most of their donations. Their thread on here would have been 100,000 pages long with all the hand wringing in this thread!

Tell that to the individual kid getting bullied for being a bit posh at crackhead academy.
But that kid is not being bullied by the media is (s)he? That was my point. I appreciate that they could be bullied in school but it is the media that is condoning and making it worse for Starmer's children and that is what I was getting at.

He knows it isn’t the same. He doesn’t care, it’s just a Starmer bashing game to him.

Okay, even if that’s true, it doesn’t change anything.

No it doesn’t. You’ve got to ask yourself is Starmer being badly advised or is he ignoring advice. Both are fixable so I do expect it to get better.

I’d like to think if Starmer to could turn back the clock he’d do a couple of things differently. In that respect someone who (privately) can admit they got it wrong is better than someone who can’t. It tends to make you more considered and cautious going forward. We’ve all worked with people who know it all and don’t listen. They tend to be an accident waiting to happen.

for me it's nothing to do with the gifts, I frankly don't care if someone wants to pay for Starmers new specs, or Boris' wallpaper for that matter. What I object to is the hypocrisy of both parties who are more focused on point scoring (in this case both have criticised the other for accepting gifts, but it's far from the only issue) than on actually running the country and sorting out the myriad of problems we have.

Ok, mate. Knock yourself out, you’re boring me now.

Aye but Starmer and his minions are giving the story oxygen.

I said at the time when they announced no more clothes they should have not said anything and just fronted it out (and repented in private). So they let the media write new headlines and ask new questions (why was it ok but not ok now).

Once that was running out of steam Starmer pops up and says yeah but that £20k was for my kid to study in peace. Now the headlines and questions are going to be one of hypocrisy and being out of touch.

This lot just don’t seem very good at politics. If they were good at policy you’d perhaps overlook that but then they come up with absolute winners like the WFA which overshadows anything they’ve done well. This is a very naive government run by a very naive leader.

On the positive side they can only get better as they learn how to do politics better, but for now they need to win a ceasefire to get control of the narrative. For that they need to shut up about donations and not feed headlines. Accept the country think you’re a duplicitous toad and hope the good you do eventually outweighs the current cluster fuck and people move on. We’re not that far away from our first old person to die due to cold and we all know what those headlines and questions are going to be about - the government needs to get a bit of a rest from the negative press before then.
But if the press keep asking about donations rather than ceasefire?

Agreed. Partygate is not comparable to this

These gifts though, like second jobs that MPs take, need stamping out.
I'm betting the Tory press will defend MPs' having second jobs because that's mainly a Tory MP thing (and Reform of course).
