The Conservative Party

I'm struggling to understand the about turn the Tories have made on protecting pensioners.

They were happy to let them die during COVID and every winter when they were in power because they couldn't afford heating.

As much as I’m anti Tory this hyperbole is a bit silly imo.

None of these people need a winter fuel payment

So one with a teacher's occupational pension, one with a Rolex, and one who may or may not be well-off but has a Tassimo coffee machine. The £4 a week = the extra cost of pods v instant coffee for two cups a day.

This deserves to backfire on the Tories but
it distracts from the problems of those who just miss out on Pension Credit.

They hoped pensioners and disabled people would die during Covid and thousands did, Reeves hopes freezing to death will cut thousands more off the social bill.
I don’t believe they deliberately set out to reduce the social bill but that’s what will happen
Don't be silly. Thousands will not freeze to death.

Wearing a solid gold Rolex watch may not be an indication of wealth, A lifetime 50 years service of labour people were awarded gifts of gold clocks or watches.
A very common practice is for people to read books(newspapers. we should be highlighting the cost of energy for everyone.

The focus should be on the triple hike in energy prices the conservatives were responsible for, that’s why the WFP was given in the first instance, energy prices are set to rise by 10% this year and Reeves thinks it’s okay to withdraw the WFP it won’t be forgotten, the decent things Labour will do during this term in office won’t matter come the next elections.

Already the plan for using the race card and restoring the WFP is being formed down in Tory headquarters. Nothing changes just promises.

its a 35K watch - they are all filmed in very nice very affluent homes. If they really really need £200 pawn/sell the watch - release a tiny bit of equity job sorted. If they really wanted to make a point we are told there are millions of pensioners on tiny incomes - go and film them not the retired solicitor and golf club captain

I’ve said it before, they are the most selfish generation our nation has produced and at the complete opposite end of the scale as their parent’s generation, who were the very best of us.

If you live in a million pound house and can’t afford to heat it then fucking sell it to someone who can, buy somewhere smaller, and you’ll never need to worry about paying your fuel bill again.

Here's the relevant graphs..in some ways it's the third one that I think is saddest as it shows the huge disconnect between our young and older populations

Thanks for posting - interesting if depressing stats. The increase in dislike of the conservatives post Brexit may also be as much to do with their lurch to the right and terrible performance in government as Brexit itself.

Once Johnson had piled the bodies high, you know, the ones that couldn’t get out to vote, they then realised that they had saved a few quid in care and pension costs, and realised it was those who may just continue voting Tory.

No one is filming the people who will miss out the Tories don’t know any poor people, it still does nothing towards reducing the price of electricity and gas. Scandalous hikes in energy plus an extra 10% this year.
Lots of struggling people I see them every day

Now, which thread should this go in?

CARE
Private care homes shut down for safety

Research from Oxford University highlights that 98% of adult care homes closed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) between 2011 and 2023 were privately operated. Similarly, over 90% of children's homes shut down by Ofsted during the same period were also for-profit.

Anders Bach Mortensen, who led the study, explained: "The strongest regulatory measure available to the CQC and Ofsted is far more likely in for-profit provision." The report indicates that the trend of outsourcing care has resulted in a disproportionate number of closures due to serious breaches of standards, with significant implications for vulnerable residents. Ben Goodair, a co-author, noted that forced closures often reflect severe neglect or abuse, leading to substantial costs for local authorities. The study also reveals a concerning concentration of care homes in affluent areas, leaving deprived localities underserved.

Probably better served posting this in the NHS or government thread. This thread is where posts go to die and this is an important topic and reasonably coupled with Labours ambitions around freeing up beds and community care.

dont think anyone was surprised, just as no-one is surprised it was missing from the murdoch/dacre lie-sheets....too busy trying to equate tory corruption involving billions to donors, with tickets to a Swift gig for Starmer

Tory Members have a choice of:

  • Corrupt Bullshit Artist
  • Racist Corrupt Bullshit artist
For next leader.

Have a feeling the Corrupt Bullshit artist will win it but how long will he last?
Is that the Corrupt Bullshit Artist that unlawfully passed a planning consent for a Tory donor?
Or the Corrupt Bullshit Artist that hacked an opposition MP's computer?

the latest hate pile on from those that live to hate ..... everything ......btw just before she had shows cancelled in Austria due to a credible terror plot being discovered and thwarted - how soon they forget the Manchester bombing eh?
