Spurs (A) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

Alarming how we appear more open to counter/transitions than at any point over last few seasons.

Injuries are killing us. All the more so because senior players such as Foden and Gundogan are an absolute mile off it. Young lads done ok but don't see a big future here for McAtee.

Positive - Nunes.
McAtee played well first half-shattered after an hour hobbling around with cramp.

The amount of games these players have played over the last 2 seasons is why we are where we are!

They have been flogged to death, internationally and domestically.

As a club we know because of our quality we are going to go usually deep in all comps.

But yet we persist with a small squad and playing the same players most weeks.

I've said it before but the competition we have failed miserably the most in for the last couple of years, is the transfer market. We've rested on our laurels for so long now and the writing is finally on the wall.

This season will be one season too far. We can't rely on re signing old players just to get bodies in the door.
Agree, since the treble we've let several established players leave who have either not been replaced or have been replaced with players with potential but not at the same level. We don't have half as much competition for places in the squad as we used to 3/4 years ago. Don't understand why we seem so opposed to using loans to plug gaps in the squad

Enjoyable game, I didn't think we'd win and was happy with how we controlled a lot of the game.

We were always going to be caught on the counter by them.

Really enjoying this Nunes mini purple patch, hopefully he kicks on fully now.

Rico great in the middle but don't think he belongs at right back.

Was hoping we'd see some of Alfa-Ruprecht as he's looked decent so far this season

Pep previously said this game not important and he will use youngsters but imo the team was much stronger with then bringing on Bernardo, Kova, Gvardiol too. some of those EDS players played yesterday could have featured here instead...
we lost anyway but lost some important players which now can cost us in the PL too.

albeit when other teams have these much injuries I often think something is not right, trainings, not ideal pre season, too many games. quite a few training injuries as well this season. getting absurd now with at least 1 injury per game now and probably another few after Bournemouth and Sporting games...
and then guess what intern. break and we know what that means, 90 mins into most of our players twice especially Haaland.

There’s a guy on Twitter who seems to have some connections. And he’s said that Walker isn’t injured and is instead ‘going through it’ at the moment with us trying to offload.

I’d rather see Lewis central and Akanji out at full back to be honest. Where possible.

Then I’d be looking at full backs in the window.
On Twitter? It must be true then!

Pep hasn't mentioned anything regarding Gvardiol...

I'll take that as good news!
Was he asked in the post match interview?

I would would say he would be coy at best but most likely say he wouldn't know when everyone bar Rodri will return this season.

Pep just walked off from the post match interview after trying to do so 30 seconds earlier

We shouldn’t be playing a system that suits a speed merchant when we have a snail playing there. The high line will be suicidal against quick teams coming up. We have to change that.
Agreed but Lewis is always running back from a central position so any ball from right to left (to his side) finds him yards away from any left winger. The fact he's of average pace just adds to our vulnerability.
