Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

And two years only delays the same conversations till the year after. Neither are a problem. As long as he is able to get the team playing well.
Well no, what it does is delay the conversations for two years rather than the very next year. It also offers stability to the players and future signings that the gaffer will be here for the foreseeable.

I get your worry but there are people at the club who know much better than you. You won't make a tragic mistake if you trust our club bosses a bit more. They have helped us get to the top and break numerous records.

It's only normal to want to have the best manager, currently or even in history, as long as possible. With Pep staying longer, the likes of Haaland and Rodri are more likely to sign new contracts.

I really don't think the difference of one year is that significant. But of course would rather see two than one myself too. Happy with either though, when the expectation generally seems to be that he will leave.

The club plans in 4/5 season cycles. We already know what the next few years will look like unless unfortunate situations arise like a Rodri injury.

I expect 1 player to arrive in January to cover for the above.

This isn’t made up conjecture, if you watch any of the previous videos released by the club on how they plan the recruitment process, you will clearly see it’s done years in advance.

So all this talk of pep is so wide of the mark it’s not worth repeating over and over again. He will sign a new deal depending on if it’s right for himself, players and club. A few defeats won’t have any impact on the thinking behind the scenes unless pep himselfs feels this way.

Speculation over his contracts have been going on for seasons and it has no impact on the results each week nor on recruiting unless you are a star name like Haaland.

I really don’t see the fuss everyone is making over this.

I do trust them, what I don't enjoy is the current uncertainty. Whilst the powers that be have that good relationship with Pep there is just zero benefit to letting it play out this way. You also confirm my point with the players extending, Pep staying makes us more attractive with current players and new.

Maybe not but we know he will probably not sign for any more than 2 so that's why I am hoping for that, and two years allows more stability than currently or 1 year extension. I would rather 1 year than leave of course.

Then a City forum isn't for you then if you think it isn't a talking point. Our manager, in his last year of his contract, with an ageing squad, going through a difficult patch and no new contract currently is a big talking point thanks. As you say it needs to be right for him and the club, letting it drag out until November time doesn't benefit the club at all and then does open the door to links to that and our poor form. We will plan as well as possible, it is a harder task to plan if you don't know who your manager will be, or plan for your next manager if you are happy to leave it late in the day.

I agree wholeheartedly. I just don't think one is as much of a disaster as has been (appreciate not specifically by you) made out on this thread. Let's see how it all unfolds. And when.

We can't force Pep to sign an extension. He is free to decide. Given his record, we owe him patience. If you can't live with uncertainty, the problem is yours.

He is joining the team then so cheeky can hand over properly. I have deduced that you know fuck all about our team
In the summer though, not in January.

At least by our own official announcements.

Well it looks like the problem could be all of ours considering our form and poor performances throughout the season. There is no room for sentiment. They have a good relationship and sort things out informally but it is also bad business to just sit on our hands and let Pep decide when he wants to tell us if he is leaving. He cannot be forced and when it is time to go he will have all of our love and wishes, but he also needs to respect the club.

cheeky is going , the new guy is coming in before so cheeky can show him the ropes , think it was tolmie that said that . Nothing else makes sense , unless cheeky is staying past the end of the season ?

Agreed, we should sack the greatest manager in the history of the club because Brighton beat us

That's a wild take. I don't want him sacked. I want him here as long as possible. It doesn't mean that it is good business letting him decide when he wants to tell us he is off. That respect has gone both ways since he started. I'd like to think when its time to go he's given us good notice.

You dont think pep, cheeky and khaldoon talk to each other ? They are a tight group and they will know exactly what pep is doing . Pep having a rolling contract all these years and it hasnt harmed us , as soon as we lose some games people lose their shit

"There is no room for sentiment." Such clichés don't achieve much.

Again, the people at the club who are responsible for big decisions are likely to know much better than you. Let that sink in.

Like with any business they have tried to sweat the assets as much as possible plus the recruitment has been mediocre this last few years. We were not great last year and scraped the league. We didn't win away at rivals. The warning signs should of been there. I also think they maybe nervous getting lots of players in and then Pep pissing off and the new manager wanting something slightly different. We are at a cross roads here and Pep needs to tell us what he is doing. 1 years extension will not make a difference when you think of how many players need to be replaced.

A friend of mine told me there is strict budget around wages. We have seen some significant wage increases over the years hence we have a smaller squad as we are not able to go over the limit on wages.
This kind of comment - and many others of its kind since this thread turned mental about a fortnight ago - would have been taken a bit more seriously had they been made last season or in summer or in the early stages of this season when the window had closed.

But they weren’t, they were made because shock horror we lost a couple of games. It happens.

Show a bit of backbone and a bit of faith in the elite coaches and champion players we have at our club.

'Signing a year's extension only kicks the can down the road'

And by a can, we mean a trophy or trophies.
Unless the uncertainty around his future was the reason why we couldn't attract any top drawer signings this summer.
In which case it's already happening and leaving us vulnerable and arguably weaker.
