In one of the previews before the Liverpool match, one quite smart fella from the Liverpool side commented something about our midfield that really resonated with me - he said it was the year after they have just won the title - Fabinho Henderson and Thiago legs went from 100 to 0 . They were downright sluggish and after multiple seasons will Kloop that was expected. He said City are facing the same thing.

I am amazed that City was not able to predict that - BSilva has been running with 4 lungs every match last 5 years, Rodri used to fell down with tiredness at the end of every match - even during games with Spain, KDB legs were gone 2 years back so did Gundogun's.

How did we not see that ? Why did we think Kovacic and Nunes were only players we could get.
How can we only have one striker in Haaland in a season with 85 matches.

If this is an oversight and mistake - then mistakes do happen and they can start changing that starting from Jan 2025. If it is something terminal, Like a possibility of relegation because of 115 - well in that case I think a midfield of nunes Kovacic and Lewis will do just fine when we are in league 2 against MK Dons.

I think it literally all comes down to Rodri. An ACL early on in the season to our most important player has meant we are unable to control games. A wider injury crisis has exacerbated the problem and, as we don't control games now, players are flogging themselves by having to do more running.

I think City were hoping to sneak through this current season before starting the serious rebuild. Circumstances have meant that this will need to be brought forward five months, but it could be a blessing. New players in January can bed in this season, meaning they are more prepared for next season. If we'd stayed competitive, signed nobody in January and fallen away at the end then we'd have been no better off.

As things stand right now, the immediate problems are obvious but I think we're seeing key players returning at a good time. It is absolutely vital that we invest well in January to kick us on in this campaign. Then the summer needs to be extraordinary.

The last month or so has been getting me down, but after yesterday I'm actually finally at peace with it and excited about the rebuild. Plenty to play for still this season and I'm looking forward to Wednesday night.

I wonder if we will look to sign someone on loan and bosmans for the summer? Why do we never seem to do this when almost everyone else does? Who was the last first team loan player we had, pizzaro? And the last bosman is Sagna? If we could sign Douglas Luiz on a loan with an option that saves us a lot of money.

We bought Phillips wasn't he player of the euros or something? Bet Pep new within 1 training session he ain't good enough that then should have concentrated the Txiki the club to find a top class number 6! We did we went for paqueta Bellingham and Rice then the beginning of this season we identified Bruno and wouldn't spend the money! One was out of our control Bellingham Rice played us and we wouldn't or thought 100m for Bruno was to much! Oh bet they also thought we have Pep he will sort it out! Rodri got acl we got loads of injuries and now we be fighting for top four!

Alot of these players are City greats (Gundo, KDB, Bernardo etc) and players that Pep can and has trusted for a while. He has a loyalty to them and is probably only just realising now because of the injury situation that they cant perform for him at the level needed every single week as their age and injuries has caught up with them. I'm sure they will pull out some performances for him, but to do it every 3 days, especially after we've won everything multiple times is a tough ask.

The real issue is the recruitment after winning the treble. We've signed horrendously and rather than pushing on and having players who can compete with them and replacing some of the top players who left bar 1 or 2, we haven't and we're still reliant on the same players to dig us out of a hole when they're no longer at their peak. Take Rodri out and it's ever worse.

We need a fresh batch of players to come in and refresh the team. It's a real test for Pep to see if he is ruthless to make calls that aren't sentimental. He did it with Aguero. Walker, Gundo, KDB amazing players for us, but this should be their last season and they need replacing with high quality players. Can probably look at John Stones aswell, who will be 31 next year and is picking up injuries more and more. We need someone we can rely on more than we can rely on him, as good as he can be when he is fit. Not sure Stones will leave but it's worth thinking about.

We probably need 9 or 10 new signings over the next 3 or 4 transfer windows to rebuild the squad, but definitely need 4 or 5 in the next two to improve (midfield especislly is crying out for quality). We have too many players under 23 and too many that are 29 and over. We need a few more between 23 and 27, at their peak and proven to kick on.

Need I think one to go, possibly two but needs must imo
That's why I doubt it will be done in January,we can't force players out. That and our targets not being available. Doubt we'll do more thamn 1 or maybe 2 for January. If it isn't enough for this season that it isn't enough, better than targetting players not as good as those available until the summer.

I think we had the likes of Zubimendi in the plans anyway mate and if he fancies it then the release clause gets done and he comes? I think we have room for two as we can deregister Rodri for this season?

We have room for 2 and I think we'll get a DM .I just not sure and other target will be available for January.

Could defo see Wharton coming in and Mcatee to Palace mate
This rumour does seem to be gathering some pace. Being so young and having had a recent operation however, if Wharton does come in then I simply cannot imagine him being the sole arrival. I sense it'll be part-ex McAtee for Wharton and then Zubimendi's release clause to be activated (assuming he wants to come).

Zubimendi or Ederson AND Wharton is the requirement surely?

Yes, I think so. Wharton alone won't be enough. I can see Wharton being moulded into a number 8 but with the ability to play DM. His passing through the lines is very good. Fortunately I've seen a fair bit of him at Blackburn and think he has a very high potential.
