Assuming the change is for the better of course. Each successive generation tends to believe they've invented sex and alcohol as well as knowing better than the one before. You can guarantee they whatever is on the edge of taboo or comedy now will be mainstream in a generation or so. We had feminism, LGB, then T and Q got in on it. That “certain age” being 60, a year younger than me. You’re right we’ve all grown up in different times and lived and worked in different circumstances. Some, probably most of us have learnt to adapt to the changing times and should have the emotional intelligence to “know our audience”. He obviously hasn’t got that capacity

But he’s a multimillionaire most likely and has had people deferring to him everyday, so maybe it’s not so unexpected that he hasn’t learned.

Having read the so called complaints, all I can say is the world is fucked.

If you are upset by his comments, you haven't worked anywhere other than Social Services.

The worst comment seems to be 'I'm not wearing any boxers under my trousers'.

The problem isn't so much what he said, it's the unequal balance of power.

If it's banter among peers, I agree there's nothing in there really that most people would be offended by in a normal working environment.

The issue in this case and cases like it, is that you've got a highly paid senior celebrity presenter making sexist jokes often to young freelancers who are scared of losing their jobs if they don't "play along".

If it was a bloke making a sexist comment to an equally senior female member of staff in an office or factory or wherever she'd just tell him to fuck off if she didn't find it funny. Junior freelance staff don't have the power to do that. It's a power trip more than anything, which can be extremely damaging and manipulative. It's the same psychological patterns found in domestic abusers.
