Foden. Savinho to some degree, Doku, Bernardo Silva, Grealish to some extent too for starters. See what Palmer is like against the most defensive sides and he wouldn't fair any better than our lads.

You were talking about finishers though.

And on current form he’s miles more effective as an all round player than those you mention.

No ones disputing he's one of the greatest managers ever, His record speaks for itself. This season he's not been at that level, and yes you can site the loss of the balon d'or winner and others to injury buts its a results business and right here and now he isn't getting them. His stubborness is a large part of that. Anyway its pointless arguing about this as were not privy to the medical teams assesements of the players so we're not going to be able to definitively say if they were fit or not either way.

Stiil you’re entitled without any knowledge of Physio, player recovery after, 90 minutes coming back from injury and the risk of aggravating any niggles to have a different opinion to Citys management and medical staff. Carry on.

Have you suggested why we don’t give the other lads a chance if Grealish and Doku aren’t fit enough to play? Why put them in before fit players and risk their further injury? Pep has had whims before - the champs league final against Chelsea springs to mind.

Ake and Akanji are injured again, probably because they are having to be rushed back , Doku and Grealish are coming back from injury so he doesn’t want to risk it in a position where we have more cover.

What did he revert back to type ?

The only thing he could have done during this period is trust the kids a bit more but his hands have been tied elsewhere

Hands tied how? We've one win and a draw in the last 8 games, its relegation form. Not sure about you but I expect a little more from the best manager of this generation when things are clearly just not working. He's not playing a system that suits the players he has available, why can't he adapt? Ego? Stubbornness?

He's watching the same things happen game in game out defensively, we are piss easy to play through and teams get so many changes against us. I'm not having that its just down to injuries, even so we are still able to field a team full of winners and experienced internationals which I'm sure 17 or 18 other managers in the league would envy.
 
The defensive requirement for the attacking players has been dropping ever since the beginning of last season.

Doku Alvarez and Foden contributed significantly less defensively than Sterling Jesus and David Silvia in their prime years. Let alone to Grealish and Bernado level. (Doku has improved a lot so far but Foden defensive level just continues to drop).

The defensive shape was not working but Rodri bailed them out.

It is very consuming for the back line when you play light weighted midfield. Now Rodri is not there and many defenders have been drained physically. It collapses.

I never understand why Pep suddenly threw away his principles of defensive requirement for all attacking players especially midfielders after winning the treble.

Pep didn't, it was Rodri who made it easy and possible :D

It's like why Pep didn't have N9 at Barcelona. The reason was Messi - he was here and there and doing it all and when manager has such a player he uses that situation to balance the other areas.

Last season for example, we had KDB / Haaland injured, Mahrez gone, Gundogan gone, Grealish injured, so basically all of our experienced attackers (except Bernardo) were out and we needed to balance that. So using Rodri's card and pushing +1 attacker into starting lineup helped us to cover for losses of above mentioned experienced players.

Julian Alvarez was that +1 player..

You seem to think he had an alternative course of action than relying on a system and way of playing that has served up 18 trophies in 8 seasons

He’s going to sit in front of the players and say listen guys forget everything I’ve taught you over the last few years, it’s a crock of shit , we’re now going to play with a low block and start launching it down the channels for Haaland to chase

That’s not how it works, once the message changes and you don’t have the courage of your convictions then the players will begin to doubt- Ten Haag at united is a classic example

We just need to get through this period of injuries without too much damage and kick on when we have more of the squad available and more crucially match fit

Unless you have a better idea ?
