Syria | Assad flees to Moscow as rebels capture Damascus

They could always try to be better neighbours. The family next door you have despised for over 50 years finally gets evicted what do you do?
Wait and see what the new tenants are like or annex a chunk of their garden and torch their kitchen and bathroom before they've even moved in?
If the people who were moving in next door to me had a history of being inimical to me and cunty more generally, then my instinct would be to get a shot across their bows before they’d got their feet under the table to show them that I won’t put up with their nonsense.

Especially if the family that had lived there before had been cunty for fifty years.

Sure but that doesn't explain why everybody else on the street despises you for acting like a **** for 8 decades.

No, tbf that’s a separate argument, although I’m not sure everybody else ‘on the street’ despises Israel. I would say the governments (which is what we are talking about) of Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait don’t. Arguably Turkey and Egypt too. Not saying they are all best mates with Israel but wouldn’t say they despise (your word) it, although that’s a rough and ready estimate and I may have miscalculated one or two as I cba doing extensive research.

My point is not every country’s government that would be considered a neighbour despises Israel, which is what your post plainly implies.

And in any event, my point remains. A FAFO warning in these circumstances is warranted and proportionate.

Further on from the topic the other day I see Syrians are now panicking in Germany because with Assad gone a lot will be being sent back home and now they don’t want to go back .

The AP report I read suggested that many were shocked, rather than panicked, that they were already being used as a political football for the Feb elections. I think when you have politicians suggesting people are given 1000 Euros and sent back immediately it's a reasonable reaction to he concerned given not only how unstable the current situation is but also how complex the reality is given the successful integration of so many Syrians. There's lots of qualified Syrians working in German healthcare that people rely on, loads of families where the children are now German citizens etc etc. Whatever happens it won't be a one size fits all but both the far right and the far left have come out with "the problems gone now so send them all back" statements. According to polls, immigration is a concern for many Germans so it's legitimate to debate it, what's not on imo is making crass inflammatory statements to play to the gallery which is what the populists do. Why anyone would vote for a politician who deliberately stokes hatred for another human being is beyond me, but that's another topic.

Israel currently destroying all major military assets that were left in Syria to stop the new lot getting hold of them.

What was the Syrian airforce and navy getting hammered.

Can’t say I blame them at this point but it’s not doing the region any favors causing more instability.

To be fair most of those governments have been bought off by the US.

Am I right in remembering you saying that you or your family were refugees from Hungary? If so, how come you're still here and didn't go back when the Soviet Union collapsed and the country became free? Or were you economic migrants?

Why are Syrians different to you?

Because my father worked and paid his way unlike most of the fuckers coming over here sponging a living and don’t forget my father came in 56 and the walk came down in 89 which is by all accounts a very long time . Dies that answer your question .

The bloke who cut my hair the other day was from Aleppo. He didn’t seem to be sponging. What makes you think most of them are?

What you seem to be saying is that if you’re here long enough it’s ok to stay and tell subsequent refugees to fuck off. Have I got that right? What’s the cutoff point when your attitude is allowed to change?

I suppose while the western narrative is that the proscribed terrorist group that have taken over from Assad are 'rebels' (freedom fighters) then it does undermine any claim for asylum.
