Diabetes

Take is seriously. Type 2 can gradually affect eyesight, kidney and circulation but these effects can be controlled by diet, exercise and medication (usually Metformin).
My diagnosis was 10 years ago and, I'll admit, I was a bit cavalier at first and only made a half-hearted effort to cut down weight and sugar intake. H1abc (blood-sugar) shot up to over 90 (should be in the 50's). Doctors doubled the Metformin but only for maximum 6-months otherwise could damage kidneys. If that failed then an upgrade to daily insulin injections. I started to be a lot more diligent and got H1abc down to acceptable limit.
Don't think you can fool doctors by giving up sugary foods just before a clinic, sugar stays in the blood stream for 6 months.

It’s really frustrating. I’m down to one Metformin a day and have been the last year and a half. This after a 2021 diagnosis.

I’m more than cavalier, still, and I don’t do anything before my yearly check. They’re always below diabetic level. So I wonder where the diagnosis came from in the first place?

I do get pains in my feet a lot, wfuch is a thing to do with it, but my blood sugar levels are always fine.

was diagnosed yesterday with type 2. It was a shock as it was part of a blood pressure check. Don't really have any symptoms other than a bit fatigued at times. Have been booked in to a diabetes clinic in January but i'm not sure what to do until then. Having read a lot in the last day, it seems that more exercise and cut carbs. I rarely eat sweets, crisps fizzy drinks or the like so the only thing I can reduce are butter and sourdough bread. I like a glass of wine or three so I guess I have to cut down on that too. Can someone who suffers from this give me their wisdom and hopefully cheer me up.
I was told stress can bring it on, not just diet and lifestyle.

I have spoke privately on here with a few, but does anyone get bad feet? It’s like walking on needles sometimes, and then when sat down it’s like some snide little **** is on the floor with a red hot hammer, hammering my toes.

It's the soles of my feet like someone sticking a poker in them

Got diagnosed Jan 23 weight was over 26 stone and I just got ill all the time. In Jan this year I started using Mounjaro which is a weightloss injection used by diabetics and I'm currently down to 20 stone 1lb and all my diabetes readings are in the green, I feel absolutely brilliant. Still wanna lose another 4 stone but for me Mounjaro was a game changer it's not cheap tho.

It’s the top of my feet for me. It’s like the skin has been worn down to nothing with sand paper, and anything that touches them is ultra sensitive and extremely uncomfortable.
Doc has said it’s doesn’t sound like neuropathy. Very odd.

Fair fucks to you. That is some weight you were but you’re smashing it.

I was 19.5 at diagnosis but because I’m tall it’s deceiving. I don’t look big.

I’m around 18 now and that’s just cutting out crisps and shit like that. I’ve just demolished a plate of broccoli, cauliflower and a gammon steak. No carbs. Little changes like that, but the doc then goes mad because of the red meat v cholesterol.

Can’t win.

Cheers mate.

Definitely can't win mate. Hope you situation improves.

I've type 2 ,never suffered any physical effects .. my blood sugars are always a bit on the high side.. Nothing to do with weight, 6ft & 11 stone most of my life ..tried different drugs with the Metformin. Nothing brings it down enough..pretty sure I've been on the maximum dose for years , so I was surprised to read on here that taking the maximum dose of Metformin could be harmful to my kidneys!!!!!

I’m skeptical of tablets, always have been. I was on 3 Metformin a day at the start, then my meds were ok so they lowered it to 1. Why not 2? I’m not convinced but I pop 1 per day as the docs prescribe. I don’t even know what the fuck it does.

I'm on them and they are working. On occasions though, they bring on a clenched-arse waddle to the bathroom which is not great thing if you're at football. Sometimes preferable to watching Swindon at the moment though.
