Take is seriously. Type 2 can gradually affect eyesight, kidney and circulation but these effects can be controlled by diet, exercise and medication (usually Metformin).
My diagnosis was 10 years ago and, I'll admit, I was a bit cavalier at first and only made a half-hearted effort to cut down weight and sugar intake. H1abc (blood-sugar) shot up to over 90 (should be in the 50's). Doctors doubled the Metformin but only for maximum 6-months otherwise could damage kidneys. If that failed then an upgrade to daily insulin injections. I started to be a lot more diligent and got H1abc down to acceptable limit.
Don't think you can fool doctors by giving up sugary foods just before a clinic, sugar stays in the blood stream for 6 months.
