Saka and Saliba both had 12 months on their contract not long ago. Should have thrown a few Van Persie type bids at them, show them who’s boss. Let’s not forget who’s been writing letters about our alleged FFP breaches. Had enough trying to appease everyone when most of the league and UEFA hates us.Agreed, we still try and be friends with them rather than behaving like the huge club we now are?
it's not a question of throwing it about, more targeted players that will improve us and are still gettable. It would be unprofessional to just wait for the new sporting director when we have needs right here and now. Clearly wasting money on knee jerk signings is a very bad idea but signing good players that Pep wants will enable us to better salvage something from this season. If we miss out on CL it will be much harder for Viana in the summerThe issue is who is that right player in January? Whether he is going to be priced out in January? Whether he really wants a more riskier move in our current state. The best option is giving Viana the money rather than to really start throwing it about in January.

Jonathan David... do not know if he matches too much to your style and if he is fine with a backup job. That is always difficult for a younger player.Wish we’d take a closer look at players out of contract in the summer.
Jonathan David - very consistent goalscorer the past 5 years, would be a great backup to Haaland.
Alphonso Davies, probably going Madrid but should at least gauge his interest.
Jonathan Tah, rumoured to be going Bayern.
Kimmich still got a few years left in him and is a brilliant player.
Wish we’d throw our weight around a bit more when contracts are nearing the end. Bayern and Madrid are great at getting these sorts for free or at a massive discount, absolutely no reason why we shouldn’t be doing the same.
oof you said it not me, lol.Same with TAA? Imagine Haaland on the end of his crosses?
It would be un-professional if we just get a short term fix in January and we have a job on moving him on. We still have to pay over the odds for inconvience of trying to bring in players mid-season when it should have been done the previous summer.it's not a question of throwing it about, more targeted players that will improve us and are still gettable. But if he wore blue I’d support himHe's a piece of shit and a ****.
Oh i am very much having a sniff round our detractors, if nothing else pumping their wages up.Saka and Saliba both had 12 months on their contract not long ago. D elapPalmer, Alvarez, Lavia and Frimpong.
The issues is getting the players to move and that would involve throwing more money around than usual. Something that we really do on a regular basis. We have tried to sign Mahrez mid-season after being rejected by Sanchez for the millionth time but Leicester didn't want to sell at that particular time (ie wanting more money than we were willing to pay at that time). We did sign him the following summer.
This is simply the reality of the situation in which we find ourselves. We hold no aces. Whilst our unwillingness to get ripped off is admirable, we will need to pay the premium this January. It will cost us more if we don’t invest in the next seven weeks. The club are going to have to pay up. The financial reward for CL progress or qualification next season is seriously at risk. Even if the fee goes up substantially, they're going to have to stick their hands in their pockets. There's a summer tournament that is incredibly lucrative as well.
We attracted the likes of Yaya Toure , David Silva, Mario Balotelli, Vincent Kompany, Edin Dzeko and Robinho without Champions League Football. There is no desperate need for this season to overspend in landing any target. Summer is an entirely different situation. We may end up having to do so.
Agree with this, January should be substance over style, lets get a DM or two that is efficient, even if it comes from the championship. We attracted the likes of Yaya Toure , David Silva, Mario Balotelli, Vincent Kompany, Edin Dzeko and Robinho without Champions League Football. indeed it would be but I'm not advocating short term fixes. I'm pointing out that if the correct players that would fit in well with our squad are available we should not wait until the summer. I would imagine that the new DOF would work very closely with Pep and the transfer team to ensure the correct players are recruited and paying over the odds for very good players is position we find ourselves in. We should learn from this and keep recruiting in the summers as you rightly say but we cannot go back in time and there is still an awful lot to play for this seasonIt would be un-professional if we just get a short term fix in January and we have a job on moving him on. TAA and Davies both out of contract in the summer, difficult but not impossible. How available is Angel Gomes in January? Well impressed with him in the u21 Euros and his England appearances. Played with Phil in the England youth teams all through his Childhood. English, home grown and technically excellent.
His diminutive stature the only downside but he seems to have developed a nice nasty streak recently. Wharton and Zubimendi other players I like for the midfield
Milos Kerkez, Leif Davies, Tino Livramento all good young full backs. Ola Aina another more experienced option.
Branthwaite is class and I reckon you'll never get him cheaper than this January. Jonathan David is quick skillful scores goals and is out of contract in the Summer.
Any of those I've mentioned could come in and make an instant impact imo. Go and get a few of them.

Kimmich possible and very handy for this year and cover for DM and FB in the squad, brings huge experience
Livramento hard but Newcastle will sell for the right money
there are options and it's time to put on the big boy pants and compete with Bayern and Madrid, we have done this before and got our players in Kev, Sane, Haaland
