It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

This should be the most active thread after this performance, and the last few months really. We have been focusing on the net spend Cup for a couple of years now and we are getting exposed. The team lacks quality, simple as. You can't rely on the same people for almost a decade. Where are the new KDBs in this team, new Bernardo's, etc.

We need new world-class talent in January. I don't care it's hard, we can't buy a project player and and aging star past it in the summer and expect to carry on playing at the highest level. That's not how this works.

Just bring in anyone. Seriously. Outside of Rodri, Dias, Foden and maybe Haaland if he can be bothered again we hardly have a player capable to play in a top 8 team in England.
That’s a bit dramatic. It’s the same side that won the league. If we have won today we’d have been 6 points behind

Doku, Savio, and Grealish have a combined total of 2 goals, we need a new winger at least along with Zubamendi

Which is crazy. We have been largely terrible all season. Southampton at home, Wolves away, Fulham at home, Chelsea away. Just a couple of games were we were very lucky to win. The rot has set in a long time ago. We are where United have been multiple times in the last 10 years. Even when we won games you could see it wasn't sustainable. All though in our case you half expected us to get better considering how good we were. Now we know that we have huge issues and the performances were early symptoms of that.

This squad needs to be culled. And depending on how competetive we want to be in the future we need players that can emulate what the likes of De Bruyne, Gundogan, Stones and Walker used to be. But the cold hard truth is that we could pick out replacements from about 18 teams in the Prem now that can make us a better team right here right now. Might be dramatic but that is the reality of the situation. We have won once in eleven games, thrown away a three goal lead agains Feyenoord, hammered 4-0 against Spurs who have hardly won a game themselves at home and now collapsed after looking shake, sloppy and devoid of ideas against the worst United squad I have ever seen also at home. This is relegation form. This january is the 2008 transfer market were we have to bring in players capable of saving the season

Current champions of England.
It's hard to see this after a derby defeat and such a terrible run.
It can turn.
January sees the return of Bobb and the arrival of Echeverri.
It will probably also see the return of Akanji and Ake.

We will buy, but those thinking we need an enormous cull are talking from a place of hurt.

I think it's mind-blowing that some believe a team that has 1 win in its last 11 games is just a few players back from injury and signing 1-2 squad alternatives away from being contenders.

We do though. De bruyne, walker and gundogan are finished at the wages they are being paid so they either renew on reduced wages and reduced roles or move on. Ederson looks done as if he's lost the fight. Stones and ake always injured, a CB is coming. Doku and savinho are not at the standard required, they are role players. We need at least 4 new starter level players. Winger, Right Back, CM and attacking midfield/winger and then a complimentary CB and CM in top of that.

I disagree, partly.
It is certain that all of KDB, Gundogan, and Walker would have had reduced roles. Injuries to Rodri, Bobb, Kovacic, Stones, Akanji, Grealish, Foden, and Doku has meant that each has had to play more than we would wish, or has had to return too early.
Bobb will return.
Echeverri will arrive.
Kovacic will be back.
Akanji will be back.
Stones will return.
Ake will return.

Football is cyclical, and we have broken that with record-breaking achievements.
It would be natural for our performances to drop off this year, after the treble and the four-peat.
When you add the injuries and illness the situation has been exacerbated.

We will buy, but I disagree with some of what you say, especially about Doku and Savinho, who I believe to be outstanding prospects. Again, they are playing more than they would have because of the injuries and illness we have suffered.

The end is close for KDB, Walker, Gundo, and Silva, IMO, but a wholesale cull is not required, IMO.

6 weeks ago we were top of the league, and reigning champions. The game can turn quickly.

I've seen people on here saying that once some of our injured players are back and we make one or two signings in January, we should focus on the champions league as we have a decent chance of winning. Like how? Have they not seen us play lately?

We've just not recruited well the last 2 years. Apart from Gvardiol, none of the players are an improvement or on par to what we had in the treble winning season. Add to that, our best players of the treble winning season are all in their 30s now. Rodri papered over the cracks last season because he's so good, without him we wouldn't have won the league. Doku & Savinho are young talented players but not a patch on Mahrez. He always provided goals and assists for us, neither of these two provide consistent output for us. Nunes just isn't at our level whatever position he plays. Kovacic is decent but he's not as good as Gundagon at the same age.

Walker, Gundo, KDB have all been magnificent players for us, but sadly they're just not as effective as they were. Walker has become a liability. Gundo and KDBs legs have gone, they can no longer cover the ground going backwards and forwards like they used to. Kovacic and Bernardo both in their 30s. I think just replacing those 3 of Walker, KDB, and Gundo with quality additions would improve the 1st team fairly dramatically, but in reality to improve the squad we probably need 4 or 5 more on top of that (CB and forward need to be on the radar).

We have to make some moves in Jan to salvage this season.
