the January window is extremely tough for availability of ideal profiles. Which makes last 2 summers all the more disastrous.

Injury crisis is just a part of how bad we are. I’d love to believe these 3 signings are coming in January but looking at the type of players available it is not looking good. And moreover, I don’t think we can afford 3 duds given the state we’re in. It has to be done with utmost care and precision. Because right now top 4 is in real danger, and we don’t have room for any more flops.

new players coming in this dressing room where everyone's head is down, no form, and 3rd/4th place to fight for as best option.

very few of our new transfer managed to bed in instantly. a few did, but most of them needed 8/12 months before they could bring decent performances week in week out.

but we need it, not just to save this season by maybe winning a cup or at least helping getting the CL place which is crucial, and maybe even 5th is a CL place, but the most important thing they are here already with 5-6 mnths of experience by the summer when further new signings need to be made.

what is the most important is sign quality rather than qty (Nunes, Phillips). few more flops will make us pay even bigger price as Viana later on need to replace those flops too. no top side can get away with more bad transfers than good ones.

I asked what Gemini thought about your opinion and what it would say to you.

Okay, let's address simon23's claim that Guimarães would be a downgrade, especially in this dire situation where City have lost 10 games in a row and are in crisis.

Here's what I would say to simon23 on the forum:

Subject: Re: Guimarães a downgrade? Absolutely not!

Hey simon23,

I understand you think Guimarães would be a downgrade, but I respectfully and strongly disagree, especially given our current crisis. We've lost 10 games in a row, the midfield is in shambles, we're lacking leadership, and the team's confidence is at rock bottom. In this context, saying Guimarães is a downgrade is, frankly, baffling.

Let's break down why he's exactly what we need right now:

Dynamism and Energy: Our midfield is static and being overrun. Guimarães is a dynamic box-to-box player who can cover ground, win the ball back, and drive the team forward. He'd inject much-needed energy into a lifeless midfield.

Leadership: We're desperately lacking leaders on the pitch. Guimarães has captained Lyon and is a key player for Newcastle. He's not afraid to take responsibility and demand more from his teammates. We need that fighting spirit right now.

Premier League Proven: He's not some unproven talent who needs time to adapt. He's been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for the last 2 seasons. He can make an immediate impact, which is crucial given our current situation.

Winning Mentality: He's a winner. He's helped transform Newcastle from relegation candidates to a top-four team. We need players who know how to win and can handle the pressure.

Defensive and Offensive Contribution: He's not just a workhorse; he's excellent defensively and offensively. He can break up play, provide a shield for the defense, and contribute goals and assists. We're struggling at both ends of the pitch, and he improves us in both areas. He is a significant upgrade on Rodri's current backups, and everyone in the league besides Rodri.

You might be thinking about his price tag, but in a crisis like this, we need a game-changer, and Guimarães is that. He's not a downgrade; he's a massive upgrade on our current midfield options and exactly the kind of player who can help turn our season around.

What are your specific concerns about him? What alternative solutions do you propose that would have a bigger immediate impact? I'm genuinely curious to hear your reasoning, because right now, I can't see any other player who would be a better fit for our needs.

In short, to Simon23 and others on the forum, I'd emphasize that in a crisis, Guimarães's proven quality, leadership, and dynamism are precisely what City needs to stop the rot and salvage their season. He is one of the best midfielders in the league, and would significantly improve this struggling City team. He is levels above the likes of Kovacic, Nunes, and Kalvin Phillips.
Don't care about price tag...

We will see on the rest. I was right about nunes Phillips and Grelish...I'm tight about this guy as well

Thanks for sharing. That is reassuring to hear, although it was pretty disappointing to see us already ruling out Guimaraes and Zubimendi. Hope they can pull a surprise or two out of the bag, because it feels like everyone needs a lift right now.

It could simply be the case that either the players or the clubs in these transfers have made it abundantly clear that no deal is possible in January- so City have no choice but to move on.

If we waste money on signing more duds then I genuinely think we’re done. These next couple of windows will shape us for the best part of a decade

We need 3 players already in the PL so they hit the ground running, I would take Kulusevski for midfield from spurs , left back Robinson from Fulham and a striker from Lewis from Everton or Mateta from Palace with Guehi ok 4

It’s indeed reassuring. Our cost for the immense success we’ve had is obviously that we’ve become complacent in the recruitment area and that instead of getting the likes of Rice / Bellingham, we’ve ended up with Phillips/Nunes.

I hope we’ve learnt this lesson for once and for all and that no matter the success, there has to be high quality additions in all areas over time to keep the competition and to avoid the team growing old like now and that a small squad becomes injury-ridden. It’s clearly a recipe for disaster.

@twosips - do you know who is to ”blame” for the last years’ bad recruitment? Txixi, Pep or that we’re hampered by the allegations?
