Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

We can have a bad season - we just can't have it this bad. On our current form we'll be lucky to muster up another 4 wins in the league.

All we want is something to change, not the manager out. But he can't keep doing the same thing every game and not expect the fanbase to get rightly annoyed.
He's not got the players.

We can debate who's fault that is.

The fact is we have an old, injury prone squad with no athleticism.

The transfer business we have done recently has been poor, far too many 5 or 6/10 players signed instead of 8 or 9/10 players.

The club need to back Pep fucking big time in the next two transfer windows, it's the least he deserves.

Tweak being the operative word. Small adjustments were all that were necessary since his arrival. Then bingo!
This collective can now play only one way and be successful. His developing of how his teams play has been consistently similar.
We are playing how we are because the widgets are thin on the ground, and forced to play out of position.
He may well be a genius, but sorry to break it to you, he is a genius at his style of play.
In that case how wrong was I and many others on here to expect him to find solutions to get us out of this mess - we are sleepwalking to a bottom-half finish at present.

You're also not taking into account how other teams have improved and developed ways to play against us, I'd say after two months of rotten results against different types of opposition it's pretty evident we have been found out.

Surely the manager's primary job is to get results? Anything after that is secondary including style of play. At the moment he's prioritising sticking to a style of play which is clearly no longer working against how other teams set up against us.

We will be 4th behind Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, but might be saved by England getting a 5th spot in the CL next season.

That said, I’m literally flabbergasted he hasn’t either tried a slightly different tack or some young blood. Dumbfounded.

The man is untouchable.

We all know it and so do the players.

He is Khaldoon’s man and has been a unparalleled success.

A bad season won’t change anything.

Pep if anything is being too loyal atm. Why? Because this group of players have went above and beyond. Reached untold heights.

Unfortunately most are injured/old/tired/lost the fight.

The boss has done his best for them this season and when he is telling 5 to go in the summer they will not be able to argue. We need this season unfortunately to shed our skin and go again.

Let’s turn a shitty situation into a positive.

Buying the right players to replace is very difficult.
Spot on.

I agree however if he keeps playing injured players then there may come a game were physically they just can’t and we ended up with 3-5 youth team having to play, instead of just 1 or 2 at a time to give others a rest.

How does the 5th spot work?

If sleepwalking is expecting him to abandon his ethos - then yes, wrong. Elite genii tend not to compromise.
The situation improves with players returning and new recruits.
This is Pep - going on about "primary job" doesn't apply in the way it might post Kendall period. We know what he can do with the correct tools in place.
Er, not taking into account other teams improving - been shouting and been shut down/derided on that for years. Complacency(and age) is the biggest destroyer of sporting dynasties. The club has let him down badly, granted, with his martyr type acceptance. I still think, however, that with the right players and Pep, we're still well ahead of others technically. The biggest difference is teams are a bit fitter and faster to combat us. Therefore our recruits need to be exceptional - nothing like the recent mediocrity.

Couldn’t agree more on the transfer business. Signed too many players who aren’t at our level. I’d genuinely love to know how much say Pep had in us bringing in Kovacic, Nunes, Doku, Savinho …

Also agree with the bolded part. But there the onus is on Pep to set us up in a way that our lack of athleticism isn’t so brutally exposed. Make us more compact, and don’t leave huge gaps everywhere.

No, he isn't untouchable. Because by default you're now saying Pep is bigger than the club. And nobody is bigger than the club.

Are De Bruyne and Stones untouchable? After all, they're veritable City legends.

So you want pep to throw youngsters into a struggling team?

Fuck. Me.

Next.
Looking at Bernardo, Gundo and Walker , I would prefer to see some of the kids out there busting their guts for our team.

How long do you allow this to continue?

How long, unless we starting picking up points you realise this could get far, far worse?

Do you genuinely believe that Pep does not give his ok to all the signings at his club?

Not bigger than the club but I don’t agree with your interpretation.

Pep has earned the right to do what’s best while still with us. Same goes for the players mentioned. He is untouchable, khaldoon won’t under any circumstances remove him.

A colossal figure in football. The club will never be in this position again with a manager.

He's earned the right to rebuild; but the caveat to that is this "form" needs addressing. We can't let him continue like this indefinitely, because there are no guarantees it'll be sorted next season, nevermind this one.

The signings are my biggest concern. Another 3 or 4 l poor ones and we may be on our spending limit and in a corner.
(Although United seem to be allowed numerous goes at a rebuild.)
Not saying it would be that bad but that's what happened with the Steve Daley saga, just signed a pile of sub standard rubbish and then had to rely on frees like Parlane and Tolmiie because the cupboard was bare.
Poor signings were the root of the decline.

Surely you can countenance the difference between “can you go and get me Kovacic, Nunes etc.” and “ok, sure, I can work with Kovacic, Nunes etc.”. Hence “how much say …”

Pep Guardiola would have significant input into identifying suitable players in terms of style and ability.
He would have much less input into checks into an identified player's wider background / personality etc to establish suitabilty and ensure the player was 'right' for the dressing room / the club generally.
Pep would not be expected to have any involvement at all in fee / contract negotiations. It's outside his area of responsibility.

He would be the major driver in relation to first team squad and 'fringe' Academy players being released/sold by club.

He wouldn't be involved in the fees received for players or 'golden handshakes' etc. Contracts are not in his remit.

He's not got the players to play his brand of football.

That doesn't mean he doesn't have players to produce a competent team.

We have the best transitional number 9 itw and the best creator in PL history. City should back Pep in the transfer windows but, currently, doing the same thing over and over again is killing us.

Signings make or break any club.

Why do you keep repeating this could worse on every thread ?

Probably the same say as he had in bringing in Gundo v1, Bernardo, Dias and Eddie.

Only the goods one count, eh?

Classic.
